BBC National Orchestra and Chorus of Wales is one of the UK's most versatile orchestras, with a varied range of work as both a broadcast orchestra and the national symphony orchestra of Wales.  It performs live to tens of thousands of people across the UK and beyond each year including annual performances at the BBC Proms and other International Festivals.  The Orchestra has a busy schedule of concerts, broadcasts and recordings for BBC Radio 3, BBC Radio Wales, BBC Radio Cymru and BBC Television.  Learning is central to the organisation, with a broad outreach programme.  The Orchestra is supported by the Arts Council of Wales, and forms part of BBC Wales, and is based at BBC Hoddinott Hall, part of the Wales Millennium Centre in Cardiff Bay and is Orchestra-in-Residence at St David's Hall, Cardiff - Wales' National Concert Hall.

Second Violin Section Principal

BBC NOW is seeking to appoint a Second Violin Section Principal.  The current Second Violin section comprises 12 players and this position would sit as Section Principal and lead as required within the parameters of the BBC/MU Orchestras Agreement.  The role offers a competitive salary package, leave days, a defined pension scheme and many other benefits, including annual instrument allowances, training & medical allowances, full instrumental insurance cover, and much more.

AUDITION DETAILS:

Auditions will be held in May/June 2019 (exact dates tbc) at BBC Hoddinott Hall. An accompanist will be provided.

Candidates will be required to perform the following:
  • Mozart Concerto, 1st movement without cadenza
  • 19 th or 20 th Century Concerto, 1 st movement without cadenza
  • prepared orchestral excerpts which will be supplied in advance
  • sight-reading, which will be issued on arrival at the audition.

Please note: BBC National Orchestra of Wales is unable to accept applications from candidates who are not eligible to work in the UK. We will be carrying out right to work checks prior to any work (including trials).
