The Team

The SAP BI Technical lead supports IT aspects of the BI systems, change, and implementation of new Global Practice Management System (GPMS) processes that involve SAP, SAP BI and systems integrated with SAP.

The role reports to the BI Project Manager / work stream Lead and will work closely with all areas of IT and the business to ensure the successful implementation of GPMS.

The Role

You will need to understand business requirements and produce technical solution design and project definitions for appropriate solutions, based on a sound knowledge of Norton Rose Fulbright's business, a deep understanding of relevant legal and business processes, and knowledge of the available software/technology.

The BI Technical Solution Lead / Architect will be responsible for analysing the current BI application and propose an industry standard data model and application architecture (BW 7.5 and BOBJ 4.2) wherever necessary.

The purpose of the role is also to provide technical quality Assurance of the minor enhancements and planned migration development and to provide service assurance for BW 7.5 environment and relevant data interfaces in line with the approved development plans and change request...

The purpose of the role is also to provide technical quality Assurance of the minor enhancements and planned migration development and to provide service assurance for BW 7.5 environment and relevant data interfaces in line with the approved development plans and change requests. The BI Technical Solution Lead will proactively identify where existing systems can be enhanced and the data reporting environment improved.

This role will also be responsible for developing BI strategy and migrating new regions to warehouse solutions based on SAP BI and ABAP (Objects) and supporting/ advising other members of BI development team on SAP BI projects.

Working with the regional and SAP COE team to understand the requirement and make sure the design is fit for the requirements and also in line with the industry best practises standards. This role should also ensure the documents delivered by 3rd party are the correct representation of the solution delivered and all required details are captured for future reference.

This individual will build good working relationships with key managers, business process owners and cross-functional teams in developing a solid understanding of their business processes and providing advice on the capabilities of existing systems and other relevant technology.

The role will include:
  • Design and develop technical requirements for components of large, complex projects, reaching objectives on time and within budget
  • Collaborate with individuals and teams in the development and implementation of improved business processes
  • Enable Norton Rose Fulbright to exploit existing systems to their fullest potential
  • Effectively integrate systems and business processes
  • Liaise with IT teams to make sure that proposed solutions take account of technical and resourcing constraints
  • Build solid relationships with IT staff
  • Explore and keep step with innovations in relevant software and technologies. Within the context of identified business requirements, assess their suitability for possible implementation within Norton Rose Fulbright
  • Prepare and deliver presentations to the business and IT on proposed solutions
  • Any other reasonable duties requested by Project Team
  • Willing to extend the working hours or flexible working hours to co-ordinate with the regional business based on the time zones (US, CANADA, EMEA and Australia)
  • Flexible in travel to regions (US & Australia) if required


Skills and Experience Required
  • Significant experience in a SAP BI Technical development/ solution lead role within a professional services environment, preferably a law firm
  • Experience in working within multiple stakeholder environments
  • Experience in a large scale IT projects including systems integration and change management
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent
  • Business Administration or Legal academic qualifications an advantage
  • Understanding of project management methodologies (knowledge of ASAP desirable), architectural frameworks and key ITIL disciplines
  • Experience with business process design and notation tools such as BPMN or UML
  • Familiarity with HP ALM and software testing methodologies
  • Manage assigned risks and monitor potential impacts as part of the data migration plan.
  • Improve systems by studying current practices; designing modifications
  • Recommend controls by identifying problems; writing improved procedures
  • Determine operational objectives by studying business functions; gathering information; evaluating output requirements and formats
  • Demonstrable experience of dealing with complex, multi-stakeholder environments;
  • Strong understanding of the overall Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC) processes (waterfall/PRINCE2, agile/Scrum), tools and technologies (including development tools, testing tools, configuration management and release management tools)
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and strong abilities to develop and enhance relationships with clients and peers.
  • Flexible, pragmatic and professional approach, with ability to anticipate problems and work with incomplete information;
  • You will be a highly experienced BI Developer, with strong SAP BW, Business Objects knowledge and ABAP development skills (Debugging, System Analysis) and ability to coordinate changes via 3 party suppliers to action approved change requests.
  • Previous experience as a Team Leader within a Business Intelligence environment would benefit the role but not a mandatory requirement
  • Very strong Database knowledge and expertise gained through demonstrably successful working experience with industry strength database solutions such as DB2, Oracle, Microsoft-SQL based systems.
  • Strong capability in working with end users and translating their business aspirations into very tangible data analysis and reporting solutions.
  • Very strong understanding and experience of delivering complex data analysis and reporting solutions within a mass volume data environment.
  • SAP Business Intelligence upgrade strategy.
  • Knowledge on SAP Basis tasks, cut-over planning and transports errors resolution.
  • Housekeeping strategy on fastest growing application and log tables.
  • Strong experience and understanding of service delivery within an ITIL v3 environment.
  • Very strong analytical and problem solving skills.
  • SAP ECC knowledge is very much desirable.
  • Good knowledge of SAP new generation products like HANA, BPC, BODS, Business objects (BO 4.x)like Information Design tool and interactive analysis tool
  • Extensively worked in BEX, BICS and BO Reporting
  • Willing to do some development work and code auditing wherever needed to make sure the standards are maintained as per the guideline
  • This role involve potential travel to US & Australia and must be ready for travel ( Do we need to specify the Visa requirement here)
  • Must be flexible to work to cover different time zones (US & Australia) during the migration activities to co-ordinate with the respective region
  • Manage assigned risks and monitor potential impacts as part of the migration plan.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and strong abilities to develop and enhance relationships with clients and peers.
  • Flexible, pragmatic and professional approach, with ability to anticipate problems and work with incomplete information;
  • Able to provide accurate estimates and meet deadlines
