Our Trust is rated as 'Outstanding for Caring' by the CQC - fundamental to this is the way that we value and respect our staff. At every level, we value the diversity of our colleagues and actively champion an inclusive culture. We believe that everyone without exception should feel free to be their authentic self in the workplace.
We understand that work is only one part of life. We are committed to helping our colleagues achieve the best possible work\/life balance. We proudly offer supportive, inclusive and family friendly employment and flexible working policies. We have a wide range of professional services and employee networks to help our colleagues be at their best - and find support if they need it.
Our Trust is already a Disability Confident employer and we are holding ourselves to account through the Workplace Disability Equality Standard (WDES). Our work on promoting equity and inclusion for our Black, and Minority Ethnic (BME) colleagues continues to be driven by engagement with the WRES (Workforce Race Equality Standard) and the WRES Experts Programme.
In 2019, we committed ourselves to becoming a Stonewall Top 100 LGBTQ+ Employer. We also support the national 'Veteran Aware' scheme and are an ERS Silver accredited Hospital who welcomes applications from all members of the Armed Forces communities.
For our patients, we do everything we can to deliver fair access to all our services. This includes providing interpretative and other services to meet the needs of disabled communities. We're careful to show sensitivity towards ethnic, cultural and religious differences. Our staff uphold these values and so help our care to get better all the time.
About this vacancy
We are recruiting Band 6 pharmacists to commenceAutumn2019.
Our quest is to completely eradicate preventable medication errors and provide a world beating pharmacy service for our patients and organization. Our entry level pharmacists are key to the success of this journey and we aim to recruit the best, train the most effectively and keep the best (that's you by the way). You will work hard with the rest of our team in delivering great service along the way.
We offer several rotations and you may experience medicine, surgery, patient services and a unique rotation supporting Brighton University undergraduate placements as an educator and practice supervisor. We are developing a band 6 rotation in mental health with Sussex Partnership NHS Foundation Trust to commenceSeptember 2019.
For each rotation you will be assigned a practice supervisor and your development will be supported using our internal appraisal system with your designated educational supervisor. You will have regular meetings with them. Your feedback and any concerns are sought as part of routine monthly feedback sessions ('communication cascade') with the Pharmacy Education Lead and during the Local Faculty Group meetings.
The Trust holds Newly Qualified Professional's forum that can also support your development as well as many other Interprofessional Learning Opportunities available for you.
We are a major regional university teaching hospital, providing general acute services and tertiary services for patients across Sussex and the south east of England. We work as one team across two sites; Brighton and Haywards Heath and have the infrastructure and support for band 6 pharmacists development with experience of supporting Band 6-7 progression posts and those undertaking the Joint Programme Board Postgraduate Diploma in General Pharmacy Practice. We are also scoping the development of Vocational Training Programmers for our staff.

BSUH is committed to the Patient First vision. This is our long-term approach to transform hospital services for the better directly supported by the Trust's values and behaviours ~ kindness and understanding, fairness and transparency, working together and excellence. "Everyone passionate about delivering excellent quality every time"
We are fortunate to have close links with the University of Brighton, University of Sussex, Brighton & Sussex Medical School and the University Teaching Hospital, Lusaka, Zambia. We take our responsibilities in supporting the development of future healthcare givers very seriously. It is a further good reason why we strive to be the best. We currently have 5 joint academic clinical lecturer appointments and 3 Consultant pharmacists working within IBD, Cardiology and HIV as areas of expertise.
Mike Cross who is leading our pharmacy team has recognised the amazing opportunity that we have... "We have a Trust Board which is committed to the provision of excellent quality and this achieved by copying best management practice from around the world. All staff gets to identify and fix problems and escalate the bigger issues to managers who in turn have been trained to sort things out".
Our most recent review by Health Education England of our Pharmacy Department Education Infrastructure concluded that "our trainees felt both well supported by the senior staff members in the pharmacy department and felt that the senior staff members were very approachable" and " the work that the Education Programme Director for the Foundation Pharmacists Alice Conway was doing within the department with trainees indicating that they were one of the main reasons they were happy to stay and continue their training at the Trust " Our recent CQC visit elevated the Trust two levels to a 'good' and in doing so demonstrated that this is a Trust that is going places.
We are excited to invite applications from enthusiastic, innovative pharmacists to join our friendly, dedicated team and look forward to hearing from you.
