Job description

Job Title: Regulatory and Government Affairs Executive
Reports to: Head of Government Affairs

Job Overview:
(1) Providing regulatory insight and analysis on policy changes that may affect Experian or key clients,
(2) Providing essential knowledge sharing within the legal, compliance and risk functions about changes in law/regulation/policy within the scope of the Government Affairs remit; and
(3) Assisting with the formulation and execution of Government Affairs strategic activity in the UK and EMEA

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Ability to undertake detailed reviews of new policy and legislative developments in an efficient and succinct manner - identifying areas of potential significance and impact for Experian and the wider market, as well as prospective rule and legislation changes. To integrate cross referencing of current, past and future policy and regulatory developments into the analytical process to ensure a well-rounded and comprehensive view of the change;
  • Drafting briefing materials including update notes and email, summarised briefing papers, and PowerPoint slides, based on complex policy and legislative documents, in a simple and succinct form that can be understood by a variety of audiences within the business for delivery in short time so as to be timely, relevant and up-to-date;
  • Proficient drafting skills for a variety of documents, whilst showing adequate appreciation of the target intended audience and with appropriate stylistic nuances and relevant content to ensure that the document has greatest intended effect. Drafting to a 'near final' sign off level for a Senior Executive audience without the need for extensive amendment or input from others;
  • Maintaining a high-level understanding of the UK and EU Regulatory system impacting Experian, and forthcoming legal and regulatory changes;
  • Operate within a team environment, both within the Government Affairs team in the UK&I and EMEA, and the wider Experian business in a collaborative manner as set out in the Experian Way behaviour. Listening to feedback and commentary from others and integrating this effectively into current and future work;
  • Representing Experian in external audiences of policy makers and legislators, with the ability to effectively communicate the agreed messaging of Experian and have sufficient understanding to be able to completely respond to questions or comments as required in a succinct and effective manner;
  • Providing meaningful and appropriate input to the strategic planning of the Government Affairs team, identifying potential areas of focus for lobbying and policy activity, whilst having sufficient understanding of the company's strategic objectives and how to align the two.
  • Regular proactive outreach internally within Experian should be conducted on a self-starter basis to ensure a sufficient current knowledge base of Experian products and services;
  • Monitoring of policy trends and drivers, and using this insight to feed into day to day activities such as policy drafting, provision of briefings and internal and external interactions;
  • Effective management of interactions with external third-party support providers including monitoring and Government Affairs agencies, allowing for productive input and good time management;
  • Complying with the Experian Way behaviours in general and, in particular, following the working practices of the broader Legal team (of which the Government Affairs team is part) such as, for example, relating to the use of the Seneca case management system and recording knowledge;
  • Provide regular updates of activity to the Head of Government Affairs and the team to ensure effective collaborative working.

Additional skills which are desirable for the role:
  • Good knowledge of the EU and UK Government Institutional policy making process, including the stages of legislation, opportunity for interaction and key stakeholders;
  • Fluency in another EU language of operation for Experian;
  • Good stakeholder knowledge of those working in the areas of impact for policy and regulatory change for Experian;
  • An understanding of the key regulated provisions which impact Experian from the FCA, ICO, CMA, and UK Government and EU institutions;
  • General legal knowledge and experience from more than one jurisdiction of Experian operation;

Essential role requirements:
  • Policy background from at least one of the key countries of operation for Experian;
  • Minimum of 5 years regulatory/ Government affairs advice provision for a regulated business;
  • Excellent written and verbal skills, including an ability to draft documents to communicate effectively with a range of audiences;
  • Ability to assimilate large volumes of information in an efficient manner;
  • Good organisational and time management skills;
  • Collaborative working with positive impact, imbedding the principles of the Experian Way;
  • Ability to speak confidently and effectively with a variety of stakeholder audiences, including public speaking, webinar communications and team updates;
  • Good IT skills including knowledge of Microsoft applications including Office 365, Skype, SharePoint and Teams.
  • Ability to work in a fast paced, and changing environment under pressure including taking advantage of alternative communication means (such as video) to minimise time wasted on travel
