Overview Qlikview Developer (12 month fixed term) Chubb is the world's largest publicly traded property and casualty insurer. Role Purpose:
  • You will be working as part of a team within the Business Intelligence department of this Global Insurance company, reporting to the Business Intelligence Manger, through to the Chief Financial Officer.
  • The role will focus on development and support of QlikView / Qlik Sense projects for the Chubb Overseas General group.
  • This role encompasses requirements gathering, analysis, design, ETL, programming, testing, training, handover and ongoing support of solutions and QlikView / Qlik Sense applications developed in house. These solutions typically are using sources from the Insurance Registration Systems and Finance databases, but also include Actuarial and Operational data.
  • Projects may involve optimisation / redesign of existing reporting scripts and documents, as well as ground-up development on completely new initiatives.
  • You will have a strong eye for detail and will also be familiar with good UX / UI concepts and ready to apply best practice in these areas to your work.
  • You will be enthusiastic about engineering quality and be interested in sharing good practices within the team. Knowledge transfer to other team members will be important, and will be reciprocal. You will have a positive, constructive approach with an emphasis on collaboration (where relevant) and good execution.
  • Strong communication skills are an asset, as is the ability to deal with a certain level of ambiguity, shifting priorities, and adapting to user feedback.
  • You must have solid stakeholder management skills, liaising with internal stake holders. Insurance industry knowledge is not essential, but experience in a financial industry role would be beneficial.
  • You will be an excellent self starter and strive to deliver quality.

  • Work with your manager at specification meetings with users and business stakeholders.
  • Understanding the business logic behind the requirement. You are not just a techie.
  • Design, maintain, and build solutions using QlikView or Qlik Sense. Ability to query and manipulate data using a variety of other tools such as Cognos and Excel.
  • Review, optimise and re-design existing QlikView or Qlik Sense solutions. Share knowledge, tips and techniques with other team members.
  • Training users and presenting to business stakeholders.
  • Produce documentation for users, and technical documentation for use by other members of the team.
  • Support users in a timely manner, escalating appropriately where necessary.

Essential areas of knowledge

  • QlikView developer & designer
  • QlikView server administration (QMC)
  • Qlik Sense application development

Essential areas of knowledge

  • Excel Features and Formulas to an advanced level
  • UX / UI design, incorporating corporate branding

Other useful exposure

  • Experience with Qlik Sense APIs / integrating Qlik Sense into a web application.
  • Cognos Report Studio report writing
  • IBM Netezza
  • IBM DB2
  • Oracle

Other useful technologies

  • JavaScript
  • SQL

  • QlikView and Qlik Sense experience both as a developer and in server infrastructure / management.
  • Preferably QlikView certified in either Designer & Developer, or equivalent Qlik Sense.
  • A good understanding of IT concepts, data, servers.
  • Good maths skills.
  • Good understanding of data layouts and relationships.

The ideal candidate for this role would meet as many as possible of the following requirements: -
  • Minimum at least 2 years' experience in developing complex QlikView solutions.
  • Has worked in a team and applies team development standards and naming conventions.
  • Have strong demonstrable development experience in the specified technical areas listed above.
  • Ability to adapt to rapidly and constantly changing stakeholder requirements.
  • Have strong analytical and interpersonal skills.
  • Experience in a business facing role.
  • Be a strong team player.
  • Self starter, pointed at a project and go.
  • Must also be able to work unsupervised under own initiative.
  • Communicate well at all levels.
  • Have a flexible, positive approach to work.
  • High level of commitment.
  • Working to deadlines.
  • Working with Insurance data and terminology.
