Principal Engineer - Systems Engineering

We currently have a vacancy for a Principal Engineer - Systems Engineering

As a Principal Engineer - Systems Engineering, you will be responsible for supporting the team working on complex systems to define the functions and functional interactions, and the functional breakdown of the systems.

This role will provide you an opportunity to work on a once in a lifetime project, as you will be helping to define and shape the design of the Royal Navy's next generation attack class submarine.

The role will require the following responsibilities:

Ownership and definition of system capabilities in the realm of vehicle control systems, or internal communication systems, or plant control systems.

Delivering a concept design, and then developing it in detail.

Working within the Control and Instrumentation team and collaboration with the wider Whole Boat stakeholders on the UK's next class of nuclear submarine (SSNR).

Your skills and qualifications:

  • A relevant Science, Technology, Engineering or, Mathematics (STEM) Degree or equivalent qualification and experience within an engineering background.
  • Significant demonstrable experience of engineering lifecycle phases and technical specialities.
  • The ability to write clearly the definition of a system in functional terms, possibly in a Model Based Systems Engineering toolset.
  • The ability to specify and agree interfaces, and communicate with other system owners.

What we're looking for in you:

You will be self-motivated and have the ability to work unsupervised and still meet tight deadlines. At the same time you will have excellent communication skills and be able to work collaboratively with the wider team when required. The ability to proactively problem solve is key to the success of this role.

Grade: S5
