Principal Design Lead Engineer

Job Description

You will be a key Design Lead in the Water Engineering business within the Wales & Bristol Hub and will take a role in managing and directing the project team, providing both leadership and technical guidance to multidiscipline team members. You will ensure and implement the right-shaping of resources and effective resource management in line with the project technical and commercial requirements. Reporting to the Framework Design Manager you will be responsible for delivery of outline and detailed design on single medium value projects or programmes of work with multiple smaller schemes.

Additional responsibilities of this role include, but are not limited to:

• Oversee the delivery of multidisciplinary projects on time, meeting both quality and budgetary targets, while striving to exceed delivery partner and client expectations.

• Establish and grow relationships with clients and delivery partners on project technical, commercial and progress matters.

• Ensuring projects meet required technical, legislative, quality, safety and environmental standards and objectives.

• Engaging with and utilising fully the remote Global Excellence Centres (GECs) as key members and resources of your design teams, and as a seamless part of our service offering.

• Promoting effective and efficient fee proposals and bid management in liaison with the Hub and / or Sector Leadership.

• Promoting and marketing all facets of the company's services during client interfaces and generally.

• Encouraging a growth mindset, innovative and entrepreneurial thinking among team members.

• Contribute to thought leadership in the water engineering business for design management and in your particular area of technical expertise.

• Act as mentor and technical supervisor to multidisciplinary design teams.

• Line management and performance development responsibility for assigned staff.

• Ensure the capture of key project and technical knowledge, including innovations.

Requirements

• Relevant engineering degree

• Chartered Engineer status (eg IMechE, IET, MICE, MCIWEM)

• An in-depth knowledge of Water and Wastewater Engineering, major clients and industry specifications and requirements.

• Significant experience in multidisciplinary design delivery of process plant systems on complex water and wastewater industry engineering projects.

• Experience of working on design and construction projects using digital design.

• Team leader with open and collaborative behaviours.

• Excellent communication and relationship building skills, both internally and externally.
