The Practice Group Management team works directly with the Banking, Corporate and Dispute Resolution & Litigation practice groups across EMEA, reporting into the Head of Banking, Head of Corporate and Head of Dispute Resolution & Litigation and Global Head of Antitrust and Competition. The function performs a broad range of duties, primarily aimed at reducing the administrative and managerial workload of the Practice Group Leaders and Team Leaders across Europe, the Middle East and Asia.
In addition to providing support, the team works closely with the relevant functional specialists in Finance, HR, Business Development to ensure that the practice groups take a cohesive and consistent approach in both the operational delivery of legal services to our clients and in supporting the Norton Rose Fulbright strategic agenda.
The function operates at a sensitive level within the firm and as such handles a large volume of confidential data which requires a high level of discretion at all times.
The Practice Group Executive will report into and work closely with the Practice Group Manager, Practice Group Leaders; and with the relevant business services teams to ensure that all practice groups are effectively supported and managed.
The role is highly variable and will suit someone who is adaptable and able to deal with a range of stake holders at different levels of seniority.
Specific responsibilities include:
Produce and proof read first drafts of strategic plans and internal communications including research into the relevant practice areas and geographies
Provide support to the lateral partner recruitment process including, but not limited to:
Producing first draft business cases and providing supplemental information where required
Monitoring and keeping an accurate record of current candidates and their progress through the process
Attending initial candidate meetings to gather information that can be used within documentation attached to the process
Filing all communications in the Norton Rose Fulbright electronic filing system
Editing documents to ensure that sensitive information is limited to the correct groups during the approvals part of the process
Work with the Recruitment team in the effective onboarding of lateral partner hires ensuring the process is managed effectively to provide a positive experience to the new partner. Support the PGM to ensure periodic follow-up with the new partner to ensure they are integrating into the firm and their needs are met
Producing first draft agendas and presentation materials for partner and department meetings including coordinating materials from other contributing functions within the firm
Support the PGM and PGLs in ensuring that all partners have objectives that are linked to their team and department business plan and that these are clearly set out in the firm's partner appraisal system
Support the PGM on delivering specific projects as requested by the PGLs which come out of the firm's management meetings. This may involve writing first drafts of papers, undertaking research or collaborating with other business services functions
Work with the PGM to ensure that communication channels are established and developed so that people hear about projects and initiatives in a timely way. Ensure that firm-wide projects are well understood by partners and fee earners in their practice areas
Provide support to the PGM in monitoring partner performance periodically, including during the annual partner pay review process. This will include manipulating and analysing large volumes of data using Excel and the firm's financial reporting systems
Support the PGM and work with the Partnership Office to sensitively manage partner departures and liaise with departed partners on on-going matters and queries
Support the PGM and PGLs in organising practice group Away Days, conferences and partner meetings by helping to develop agendas, send out communications and work with the relevant PAs to ensure the success of such events
Any other ad hoc tasks as required
Skills and Experience Required
Business degree educated (minimum of 2:1 or equivalent)
Relevant professional services experience; demonstrates high professional standards and an understanding of the dynamics of a partnership environment
Demonstrable ability to write effectively in business appropriate language
Strong Microsoft Excel, Word and PowerPoint skills
Practical and efficient self-starter with strong organisational skills
Flexible and enthusiastic, willing to take on additional responsibilities as needed
Excellent interpersonal skills to develop relationships with and influence colleagues at all levels
A flexible approach to work and an appetite to learn further about the priorities and pressures of the people they support in order to deliver first class support
