About this vacancy
An exciting opportunity has arisen within speciality medicine for an enthusiastic Band 6 nurse, with an interest in education to become a Practice Development Nurse to support nurses within the medical \/care of the elderly \/ infectious diseases wards' at the Royal Sussex County Hospital in Brighton. This post is a part time role, 0.5 whole time equivalent (WTE) and requires an excellent clinical role model, to support the band 7 educator in working alongside nurses within clinical practice, inspire and motivate new and existing staff in delivering compassionate care that ensures patient safety and dignity.
Brighton and Sussex University Hospitals NHS Trust (BSUH) is currently going through an exciting period of change. The £500M "3T's" redevelopment of The Royal Sussex County Hospital is underway and stage one will be completed in 2 years' time. In January 2019, The Care Quality Commission (CQC) published its report following its recent inspection of Brighton and Sussex University Hospitals (BSUH). This showed a significant improvement in our rating to the second-highest possible: 'Good'. Medicine was rated as outstanding for the care delivered.
The successful candidate should be dynamic and passionate about education and the professional development of nurses. The individual will possess initiative with a proven ability to organise and assist in developing a structured programme of teaching to ensure delivery of nursing care to the highest standard.
One of the key priorities of this post is ensuring that all new nurses joining our ward areas receive a robust induction\/orientation programme and support within their supernumerary period. Another priority is to maintain and update education databases and competency records. Speciality medicine has a two year education programme in preparation for the move into the new 3 Ts' building and the successful applicant will support the educator with this programme. The Trust works closely with the University of Brighton, in providing post registration pathway modules, and the Practice educator together with the practice development nurse will be a key resource for nurses involved in this process. Flexibility of working hours is necessary to meet the educational requirements of nurses within the Division.
The successful candidate should have experience within an acute specialist, medical\/care of the elderly\/infectious diseases ward setting, and should possess a mentor qualification. The post holder will work collaboratively with the trust practice development team, attending meetings on behalf of speciality medicine when required.
