Be at the heart of transforming our Operations function.

We are looking for someone to revolutionise the way Hiscox UK looks at and uses operational data. This is a highly visible role, critical to the success of the Operations function, and a key business partner to the entire Operations leadership community. The role holder will design, build and own the operations MI suite to create the analytical insight required to inform and steer business decisions, ensuring that key insight is provided to the right people at the right time.

You will need excellent communication skills with the ability to bridge the gap between technology and business. You will be highly data literate and analytical, enjoy working directly with the front office to solve complex business problems and have a track record of using data to improve business performance. You will drive yourself and your team to be continually curious, hunting out the information that will drive the business forward. You will also have ruthless focus on delivering the most value add MI, be an expert on what KPIs will drive the right results and have a track record of creating high performing teams.

What you'll be doing

  • Partner with the Operations team and senior leaders to define and deliver an effective reporting, analytics and information delivery framework to enable data driven decision making
  • Work collaboratively with front line service managers, and constructively challenge them to determine the most effective KPIs to understand and improve the performance of the business
  • Translate business needs to technical specifications, acting as a conduit between business users and technical BI developers
  • Contribute as a thought leader in identifying key performance metrics for the Operations function
  • Provide coaching and training for front line managers in the interpretation and use of MI to ensure maximum value is gained from the information
  • Work with the Head of Governance and Controls to develop exception reports and measures to assess the effectiveness of process controls
  • Work with the Continuous Improvement Manager to develop lead and lag measures of process effectiveness and provide ad hoc reporting in support of specific projects.
  • Drive innovation on development of tools, reporting improvements, automation and creating new insightful ways to present reporting.
  • Rationalise, simplify and consolidate the MI currently available in our business
  • Identify opportunities and challenges presented in the data to provide consultative services to business decision-makers
  • Explore new data sources and work with business partners to determine how to extract the value of the data.
  • Lead our resource and capacity planning team
  • Create and develop a high performing team
  • Ensure there are robust and repeatable processes in place for requesting and delivering MI/improved MI to the business

Our must haves

  • Experience in leading a team
  • Track record in using data to improve business outcomes
  • Excellent knowledge of SQL and relational databases.
  • Sound experience with BI tools such as Tableau or similar
  • Proven ability to identify the metrics and KPIs that will enable the business to run smoothly and identify areas for improvement
  • Ability to act as a 'translation layer' between Operations Management and the technical BI Team, providing constructive challenge and ensuring the data provided adds value
  • Strong leadership and influencing skills with the ability to create a cultural movement
  • Ability to demonstrate taking total ownership and accountability for significant deliveries
  • Great collaboration skills, an ability to work with people in different functions
  • Excellent communication and the ability to deliver through a matrix organisation
  • Sense of urgency to accomplish things quickly and ruthless ability to prioritize multiple tasks and deal with unforeseen circumstances
  • Will get stuck in and roll your sleeves up.
