The team at Harwell has led the field of research and assessment work related to the safe disposal of radioactive waste, for over 30 years. The team has a wide breath of both national and internationally respected expertise to provide consultancy, modelling and laboratory studies to underpin the science, technology and engineering to allow the safe disposal of radioactive waste. An important aspect of our activities is the delivery of mathematical modelling to a range of customers.

You will be involved in delivering an exciting and diverse range of desk-based consultancy projects undertaken for our customers in the UK and overseas. The key responsibilities of this role are listed below.

Application of tools to solve a range of coupled mathematical problems.

You will take a supporting role in delivering scientific consultancy using these tools.

You will take a supporting role in the development of bespoke software tools to our key customers

Contribute to the production of concise and well-written technical reports and presentation of results to customers.

An ability to contribute to broader activities in the team.

The role requires an understanding of the underlying requirements of our customers, and how we can meet those requirements.

Support in the production of successful, competitive proposals.A PhD in Mathematics, Physics or related subject.

The suitable candidate will have a proven track record in, and experience of, mathematical modelling.

It would desirable the candidate must have a proven track record of team working.

It is desirable the suitable candidate has a working understanding of geological disposal of radioactive waste.

The candidate must have a proven ability to develop or apply a range of software tools used for coupled modelling (e.g. COMSOL Multiphysics)
