Job description

Aviva UK are now looking for an Actuarial Risk and Controls Manager to join our Risk & Controls Centre of Excellence. This team has multifaceted and wide involvement - supporting on a spectrum of areas.

The role supports the execution of risk and control assessment activity within the UK Finance function, looking at all aspects of the control environment in Finance, but not limited to those associated with financial reporting. Specific focus will be on actuarial processes, with targeted activity on Model Risk, End User Computing testing and review of Solvency II basis risks.

This opportunity will allow for someone to be a part of the key changes in a huge organisation - interacting across Group level as part of a horizontal team. We believe the work will always be new and complex - where real input can be seen add direct value to our business.

Aviva introduced "smart-working" in 2020, and the person in this role can be based anywhere in the UK, as long as they are open to monthly travel to our offices (Norwich, York, Bristol, London).

The role's duties & responsibilities:
  • Timely and high-quality delivery of financial reporting and operational risk control assessments across the UK based Finance function
  • Delivering Model Risk, End User Computing and SII basis reviews
  • Building and maintaining strong working relationships with key members of Finance teams to deliver risk and controls activity effectively
  • Establishing, supervising and maintaining industrial strength internal controls which meet both internal and external policies and standards across Group Finance and Finance functions
  • Delivering quality assurance activity and other specific ad hoc projects and reports around the Group Finance function as required (deep dives in actuarial areas and baselining models, etc)
  • Responsible for cultivating an appropriate culture to support and improve the risk and control environment


Skills & experiences required:
  • Actuarial qualifications are essential, including SII experience, implementation of SCR, model review/migration, production of best estimate liabilities, analysis of change, review of assumptions and SII model validation experience
  • Experience with audit of life assurance is crucial
  • Risk and Controls delivery experience, specific to actuarial processes, including SOX and internal management
  • IFRS 17 experience
  • A track record of proactive stakeholder engagement
  • Experience with regulatory requirements is advantageous
