About this vacancy
Locum Consultant in Paediatric Emergency Medicine
Start date 4 September for 6 months initially
Brighton and Sussex University Hospitals is the regional teaching hospital, providing general acute services to Brighton and Hove and Mid Sussex and tertiary services for patients across Sussex and the south east of England. Working as one hospital across two sites in Brighton and Haywards Heath, we treat over half a million patients a year.
We are looking for an outstanding clinician to join our growing, enthusiastic and friendly consultant team at the Royal Alexandra Children's Hospital (Alex) Children's Emergency Department (CED) to help us establish the Alex as the leading hospital for children and young people in the South East Coast region.
This is a new locum consultant post working in our dedicated CED within a team of eight consultants, advanced paediatric nurse practitioners and emergency nurse practitioners.
Our stand-alone CED sees 28,000 patients a year with on-site paediatric subspecialty services including general surgery, orthopaedics, maxillo-facial surgery, dentistry, dermatology, burns and plastics and an on-site 10 bed HDU which the CED consultant team supports. The Royal Sussex County Hospital (adult) ED on the same site is the designated Major Trauma Centre and all paediatric major trauma is seen within this facility.
This post would enable the successful candidate to develop further their expertise in PEM in the supportive and enthusiastic environment of our CED and to live on the south coast in the vibrant cosmopolitan city of Brighton within close distance of the countryside of the South Downs.
This post is initially a locum post for 6 months. it is anticipated a permanent post would be advertised at the end of this year.
