Job description



The School of Biochemistry is seeking to further strengthen its internationally competitive research base and further its educational capacity through a Lecturer/Senior Lecturer level appointment.

 

We encourage applications from early career scientists, including research fellows and senior postdoctoral researchers, whose interests complement and enhance current School activities.  Our research activities are broad, encompassing single-molecule microscopy, structural biology, biodesign, cell biology, and the study of cell behaviour in tissues and model organisms.  The position will be based in the Biomedical Sciences Building with access to outstanding state-of-the-art core technologies (including proteomics, light and electron microscopy, cryo-EM for structural biology, protein expression, liquid handling robotics and flow-cytometry) and Ph.D. training programmes funded through the Wellcome Trust, the Medical Research Council, the Biotechnology and Biological Sciences Research Council and the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council.

The successful candidate will bring and develop a creative, high-impact and internationally-competitive research programme supported by external funding (the School's annual grant expenditure exceeds £8M) and will also provide innovative and engaging teaching to undergraduate and postgraduate students .   With over 35 research groups in the School working in biomolecular structure and function, synthetic biology and cell biology, and supported by close relationships with other Schools within the University, there are extensive opportunities for collaborative research, for example across a broad array of clinical and non-clinical health-related areas (see links to the Faculty of Life Sciences , Faculty of Health Sciences and the Elizabeth Blackwell Institute for details) or in synthetic biology .
