Job Description: Hiscox London Market is actively seeking a dynamic Lead Quality Assurance Engineer to lead our London Market QA engineering team and immediately get involved in shaping the way we ensure quality across all of our technology platforms.
We are looking for an enthusiastic and self-motivated individual to ensure quality is embedded into everything we do, ensuring that requirements are effectively converted to automated tests that guarantee our technologies conform with our expectations.
Our technology platforms include web applications developed in C# interacting with backend services (APIs) and backed by Microsoft SQL Server databases. We operate data platforms using Snowflake cloud data warehouse orchestrated with Python code and Matillion for ELT. We have a hybrid on-premises / Azure cloud infrastructure and are adopting a cloud first / provider agnostic approach.
You will join our London Market Tech leadership team - and will help drive our strategy and vision of becoming a trusted partner and working as part of the business in a truly agile fashion.
We need someone who can help define and implement Quality Metrics leading to a Test design and Automation strategy across London Market.
We need someone who can help to get stuff done and deliver value incrementally to the business - who completely understands what agility really is and always looks to keep things simple and avoids excessive amounts of code where possible. You will understand best practices in the cloud and the importance of DevOps and ensure we can easily build, deploy and monitor solutions when they go into production.
You will have experience in Quality Assurance Engineering / Software testing, and experience in a lead role or proven readiness to rise to the challenge of leadership.

at the forefront for setting up a comprehensive Test Strategy delivering high-quality standards and processes for the test team
expected to drive and develop improved ways of testing by having an understanding of business products and testing areas
working with senior stakeholders and technical leads to understand where quality engineering can best be applied across the business unit and support other engineering teams, providing guidance and frameworks to ensure quality across functions
ensuring hands-on development of both testing frameworks and specific tests for web applications, APIs and data platforms.
creating and managing a specialist quality engineering practice for the Hiscox London Market with a right tool for the job mentality; researching, evaluating and adopting new technologies.
focussed on speed of delivery and quality, with suitable pragmatism - ensuring your solutions are always "appropriate" and not overly complex or over-engineered.
enabling progression of projects from PoC to post-production stage.
communicating and presentating ideas to colleagues in all parts of the wider business.
supporting recruitment, mentoring and code reviews for the quality engineering team.
helping to drive strategy and vision as part of the London Market Tech leadership team.
guiding the personal growth of your team members.
managing offshore partner QA engineers and testers - in India and Poland and onsite staff in London and York Hiscox offices.
Person Specification: Core Areas of Knowledge you will require to be successful in this role include:
Sound understanding of testing methodologies including behaviour-driven testing, unit testing and data-driven testing.
Abilty to take an automation-first approach to quality engineering.
Experience developing testing frameworks for web applications using tools such as Selenium.
Experience developing testing frameworks for APIs using tools such as Postman / Newman.
Exposure to API performance testing tools like jmeter
Behaviour-driven testing of executable specifications e.g. using Gherkin.
Sufficient SQL expertise to develop effective backend database tests.
Good understanding of DevOps principals.
Experience in working with version control tools like git
Experience working in a truly agile style.
Experience with both cloud and on-premises solutions .
Leadership and people management skills necessary to lead a team of quality engineers - both Hiscox and partner.
Servant leader attitude along with Coaching and Mentoring skills.
Should be a good Team Player.
Excellent Communication skills.
Commercial savvy necessary to ensure work is prioritised and targeted appropriately.
Experience building tests into Azure DevOps pipelines.
Familiarity with C# testing frameworks.
Exposure to API testing using RestSharp would be advantageous.
Familiarity with the Python testing framework pytest and its behavioural extension pytest-bdd.
Exposure to Docker / Familiarity of containerization would be advantageous.
Experience performance and volume testing APIs using tools like Gatling (or similar).
Particular understanding of the Azure cloud.
