Our Level 3 Outdoor Activity Instructor apprentice programme is a great way to kick-start a rewarding career in the outdoor industry. On your 2-year journey with us you will gain skills, qualifications and the confidence to run a variety of outdoor activities.

Can you remember a school residential, family day out or a time you've had with friends having fun in the outdoors? As a UK Youth Outdoor Apprentice you will be the person that makes this happen for someone else.

Whether you are interested in climbing and high ropes, bushcraft, mountain biking or canoeing we offer a wide range of inspiring outdoor activities available throughout the year. You will engage with a wide variety of participants, gaining experience working on school residentials, development programmes, family events and supporting participants with disabilities and additional needs.

What does an Outdoor Activity Instructor do?

An instructors main role is to deliver safe outdoor learning sessions with a focus on helping individuals to experience, learn and develop. However, to enable this to happen there are many other related duties such as safety checking equipment, preparing resources and maintaining activity bases.

The role of an instructor is varied and brings new challenges every day.

You will need to be:
  • Be aged 18+ on entry
  • Have a friendly, enthusiastic personality and a can-do attitude
  • Enjoy working with people of all ages
  • Be happy to work outside in all weathers
  • Be prepared to work weekends and evenings and have the resilience and stamina fully commit to the programme

To complete your apprenticeship you will also need English and Maths at Level 2. This is not an entry pre-requisite, but those without this will need to complete this during your apprenticeship.

Our apprenticeship will give you:

Supported by a dedicated, experienced staff team, our apprenticeship will give you the opportunity to gain a variety of in-house and nationally recognised industry qualifications such as:
  • Activity First Aid
  • Archery GB instructor
  • BC Level 1 Paddlesport Instructor
  • ERCA
  • MIAS Level 1​ ​

As well as the chance to live on site in low cost accommodation, meals whilst on duty and basic staff uniform.
