Independent Chair Facilitator for Essex Safeguarding Children Board

This is a 3-year contract working 35 days per year

Closing date for applications: Sunday 1st September 2019

Candidates who are successful at shortlist stage will be required to take part in a two-stage interview process. Preliminary interview date TBC. Final interview date will take place on Friday 20th September 2019.

We are looking to appoint a self-motivated and accomplished leader as the Independent Facilitator to support the three Statutory Partners (Health, Police and Local Authority) in leading the strategic work of Essex Safeguarding Children Board (ESCB) and ensure that they contribute to making a real difference to the safety and well-being of Essex's children and young people.

You will be expected to ensure that the Board has a distinct, independent and objective voice representing the views of all partners, driving improvements in effectiveness and ensuring independent challenge to partner agencies where necessary. You will need to have extensive experience in chairing strategic partnerships and a good knowledge of safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, as well as the ability to inspire trust and confidence of senior professionals across a range of agencies. You will need to evidence effective vision and leadership at a strategic level and demonstrate high level communication and negotiation skills both with professionals and the public.

There is a parallel process running alongside this for the Chair of the Adults Safeguarding Board. We are certainly open to applicants applying for both roles, as we recognise that there is some synergy in having one person in both roles, but we do want to ensure the successful applicant (or applicants) fully understand the specific roles and responsibilities of each Board.

With substantial operational and senior management experience within a professional specialism, you will also hold a relevant qualification in Legal, Social Work, Health/Social Care, Education, or Criminal Justice.
