Responsibilities:
As Head of Food Technical you will be a vital part of our governance. You will be responsible for ensuring that the meals that we develop, the materials that we source and the processes of assembling and delivering our boxes guarantee safe, quality food to delight our customers. You will be a commercial and strategic people leader who is passionate about great quality food.
Given the importance of food to our business, you will work closely and in an influential manner with most teams in the business, including Buying, Operations, Brand, Marketing, Web Development and Data Science. You will lead our current Technical Team and develop and build the right team for the future as we continue to scale.
Knowledge and Insight - You will provide specialist knowledge to the business, in particular procurement and the food team, enabling the development of safe, quality meals. You will keep abreast of, and assess the impact of, any new or changing legislation and where appropriate seek to influence through industry bodies, regulators, etc.
Strategy - You will establish a technical strategy and vision that meets the needs of Gousto as it scales. This will be done by working with other teams, supporting their strategies and that of the overall business.
Systems - You will coach and develop the technical team to ensure all systems and processes that monitor and maintain food safety meet the requirements of a recognised food safety system, eg BRC and comply with current legislation and are embedded and maintained across the business.
Reporting - You will have excellent communication skills and use these to ensure staff at all levels of the business are aware of the Food Safety KPIs as relevant to them. This will include selecting and presenting information clearly with indications of trends. Satisfy the Risk Committee that policies relating to food safety, material sourcing and relevant legislation are met.
Problem Solving - You will be focussed on resolving problems. Welcoming challenges and applying experience and specialist knowledge to find simple solutions and use influence and negotiation skills to agree resolution.
Raw Materials - You will be working closely with the procurement team to support their buying strategy. Ensuring Gousto has systems and processes to risk assess raw materials and suppliers, monitor and measure their performance using a robust audit programme.
Sustainability - Collaboratively develop Gousto brand standards in key areas of CSR eg animal welfare, marine stewardship, ethical trading. Work closely with the Nutritionist, Food Team and Procurement.
Continuous Improvement - You will use your experience to identify opportunities to improve and develop systems and processes to support operational efficiency and mitigate risk to the business.
Incident management - support the business Incident Management processes as required. Ensure the team quickly reacts to any minor issues (e.g. an ingredient no longer being available), working with buying and operations to come up with quick, resourceful solutions. Work closely with brand, PR and other functions to deal with any potential major issues (e.g. food contamination), having a plan in place in advance for any eventuality.Requirements
