The Cross-Domain product development team is a close knit engineering team within BAE Systems - Applied Intelligence operating in a dynamic market. The team is responsible for the development of world leading hardware based network security appliances operating at multi gigabit speeds . Our designs typically include custom hardware, high performance FPGAs, embedded SoCs, high speed memory interfaces, processors, network interfaces and full software stack. Our customers include a variety of government departments and defence, telecommunications and critical national infrastructure companies. The team has a strong desire to deliver a range of high quality products by emphasising collaboration between all stakeholders with a focus on clear communication.
What we are looking for: We are looking for bright, enthusiastic and committed individuals to work as FPGA developers in our Cross-Domain development team. We are primarily seeking early career engineers but do have opportunities for more experienced team leads. We are interested in hearing from anyone who can make a strong contribution to our work and so this job spec should be read as a guide.
Role Duties & Responsibilities: This is a technical specialist role that will comprise: Development (design, debug and test) of a wide range of primarily high speed digital FPGA based applications for use in networking equipment. Contribution to continuous improvement of design processes. Leading development activities and being responsible for working out and running tasks to an agreed delivery schedule. Maintenance of our leading-edge capability through research and monitoring of developments in relevant technology. The emphasis of this role is the implementation and delivery of solutions, support from senior technical specialists is expected to be provided particularly in the early stages of design idea generation.
For more experienced applicants the role will also include: Leading the activity of a small design team including the mentoring of junior engineering staff. Client interaction to gather requirements, deliver solutions and bid for new work.
Skills and Experience: The candidate should exhibit a range of the following characteristics: 1+ year experience of FPGA development (eg VHDL). Proven record of set-to-work and verification of complex FPGA designs, sometimes under demanding project timescales. Flexible and adaptable to use a range of software and firmware development tools and environments, e.g. C/C++, Python, Linux, VHDL. Comfortable working on multiple projects at the same time and in a dynamic environment where deadlines and priorities are changeable. Experience of working within multi-disciplinary development teams in a project based environment. Client-facing experience and influencing skills, as well as strong inter-personal skills. Experience of designing products for production. Ability to shape and develop new propositions. A good understanding of networking principles to be able to contribute to wider system design. Understanding of digital hardware design with some hands-on laboratory experience of debug/set-to-work.
