The Role
To support the Senior Manager, Exposure Management and Head of Risk Aggregation in understanding and managing Lloyd's catastrophe risk at both Syndicate and market levels. The Level 13 Exposure Management Manager is responsible for the technical oversight of an allocation of Lloyd's Syndicates & Managing Agents. This includes:
  1. Leading the evaluation of syndicate compliance with Lloyd's requirements,
  2. Leading the assessment of Syndicates' Catastrophe Risk Appetites
  3. Leading exposure management operational evaluation and technical referral activities,
  4. Supporting the wider objectives of the Exposure Management team.

What Will You Do?
  • Technical validation, evaluation and analysis of Syndicate level catastrophe risk
  • Performance of specific Exposure Management reviews with Managing Agents in regard to technical assessment of catastrophe risk metrics and management effectiveness, and evaluation of compliance with Lloyd's Exposure Management Minimum Standards and Franchise Guidelines, including the maintenance of appropriate oversight records
  • Evaluation of the Catastrophe Risk and Exposure Management elements of Syndicate Business Forecasts and Syndicate Capital Requirements
  • Management of and response to technical referrals relating to Catastrophe Risk and Exposure Management
  • Risk and relationship management activities:
  1. Syndicate review and overview meetings
  2. The identification, investigation, evaluation and quantification of emerging risks and opportunities
  3. Ad hoc referrals and enquiries from, and to, Managing Agents
  4. Ad hoc referrals and enquiries from other Lloyd's teams and Departments
  5. Ad hoc enquiries from regulators, rating agencies and other external stakeholders
  • Production and pre-release validation of internal and external reporting and presentations
  • Lead technical research and investigations to support risk based analytical research and trend analysis as and when potential issues or risks identified / observed
  • Provide technical input to the enhancement of the data and risk analysis reporting and evaluation tools used within the Risk Aggregation team, and the team's capability to disseminate Exposure Management information across the Lloyd's Directorates
  • Proactively contribute to wider Lloyd's projects and business objectives as and when required, with a special focus on Exposure Management subject matter expertise

What You'll Need
  • Strong numeric / mathematical skills Strong computing skills & capability, including:
  1. advanced Excel tools, e.g. pivot tables
  2. one or more catastrophe modelling tools
  3. other Exposure Management tools, such as aggregation systems, GIS, policy admin systems
  • Ability to explain complex technical information effectively to a variety of stakeholders
  • Ability to communicate confidently at a senior level and demonstrate technical credibility
  • Ability to document assessment processes thoroughly and equitably
  • Ability to influence and manage senior stakeholders
  • Ability to structure and distil information concisely and clearly
  • Very strong administrative and organisational skills
  • Extensive technical knowledge / understanding of:
  • General insurance classes and lines of business
  • Principles underpinning the assessment of catastrophe risk, including probability, risk modelling and catastrophe modelling
  • Catastrophe modelling practice, ideally from an underwriting organisation
  • Challenges, issues and trends in exposure management field
  • Insurance market including Lloyd's, London Market & International Market Working knowledge / understanding of:
  • Risk management and audit techniques
  • Financial planning and capital management
  • Legal and regulatory environments
