Job description

If you retired as a Constable or Sergeant with 30 years pensionable service, our Return scheme allows you to re-join as a fully warranted officer, and we would be delighted to welcome you back in this capacity.
This scheme is mostly aimed at officers at the ranks of constable and sergeant, in order not to reduce career development choices for other officers. However, by exception, where we have particular gaps in skills or experience, we will consider applications from more senior officers below Commander rank.
You will need to be available to return to the Met as soon as possible. In most cases you will receive a start date and posting details within two weeks of submitting your application.
To be eligible to return to the Met via this route you must have retired from the Met since 31 March 2015.
The Home Secretary has announced the Government's commitment to interim changes to tax and pension rules for those officers nearing retirement or who have recently retired so as not to deter those from continuing or returning to serve.
We know that for a time limited period those officers retiring from the Met and rejoining will no longer require a one month break is service. Other changes are still being worked through.
We are asking you to commit to a minimum period of six months on the scheme if possible so that we can plan and organise effectively, on either a full or part time basis.
We are putting in place very streamlined and rapid procedures for this process to ensure a great experience for you, and so former colleagues can be back on duty quickly to support their colleagues.
We also want to hear from you if you resigned prior to completing 30 years service as we also have a re-joiner scheme available.
If the scheme to return as a paid officer is not right for you at this time, we also have an opportunity to return as a Special Constable. During this process we will look at your previous skills and match you to an appropriate role either as a Special Constable or detective depending on experience. To re-join us as a Special Constable, we would be looking for you to commit to a minimum of 16 hours per month, but of course we would very much welcome your support for longer periods if you are able to do so.
During this period we are also looking for ex police officers or police staff to come back and volunteer and there are many volunteer police support roles available.
Your skills, dedication to public service and experience are incredibly important and we are have been grateful for all the messages we have received and know that you are thinking of us at this time.
