Engineering Manager - Front End REACT (Initially remote)

Despite the current circumstances we are still recruiting for roles. In compliance with UK Government advice relating to COVID-19 this role will be remotely based in line with our current workforce and we will supply you with the tools and technologies to enable you to do so. Similarly all interviews will be conducted by google hangouts or equivalent video conferring technologies.

From our high-traffic websites to our emerging apps, our engineering teams work with dedication to ensure that consumers are able to access compelling and informative content at their convenience across our core products including https://www.which.co.uk/ , https://trustedtraders.which.co.uk/ , https://www.which.co.uk/consumer-rights .
Reporting to the Head of Engineering, and working alongside a QA Manager and Engineering Manager for our back end team you'll be regarded as a technical expert for your domain. Using your expertise, you will ensure that our products look and feel great and offer an exceptional online experience.
You'll also manage a team of talented developers across all levels from junior to senior. As their leader you'll set the direction of the team, and will foster a progressive engineering culture where engineers are empowered, challenged and supported.
What's more, with the recent launch of our Reviews and Consumer Action squads and with plans to establish further squads over the next 6 - 12 months you'll have a key role to play in enabling change and supporting your team as we adopt new ways of working. You will also:

- Recruit and manage the performance of the front end team
- Proactively collaborate with other members of the department to improve the software delivery process and ensure an aligned approach
- Lead research and development of new technologies to create and enhance Which? products
- Drive understanding and implementation of current best practice for all development teams
- Lead technical governance for the Front End
- Proactively promote and contribute to a knowledge sharing culture
- Work with others to establish business needs and requirements (including non-functional requirements
- Actively participate in Agile ceremonies and work with the Delivery Managers to evaluate and improve processes
- Actively participate in technology, product and other organisational meetings
We're looking for a candidate that has a genuine interest in leading a team. You'll be committed to creating a progressive culture where developers are encouraged to learn and share knowledge and you'll certainly be an advocate for modern engineering practices such as TDD, peer reviews and pair programming.
Naturally you'll take a keen interest in technology, and as an engineer by background will have practical experience and excellent knowledge of:
- Markup technologies; HTML5, CSS & SASS
- Knowledge of API design and best practice (GraphQL/REST)
- Knowledge of AWS technologies (Elastic Beanstalk, RDS, SQS, SNS) and architecting cloud solutions
