Job Description: You will be leading on developing new or amended underwriting strategies in response to areas of opportunity as well as deteriorating performance for our Emerging and Traditional PI lines of business. This work will be crucial to the profitable growth of the PSC account across our broker and direct channels.
You will be reviewing our risk selection, underwriting questions, product breadth and pricing in order to deliver a proposition set up for profitable growth.
You will be measured by creating a successful plan to address these opportunities and threats, as well as working with the other members of the PSC Underwriting Management team to embed these changes into our day to day underwriting.
You will be measured by the growth and profitability of the underwriting portfolios, the effectiveness of the underwriting strategy and feedback from underwriters.
What you'll be doing
Investigating areas where our current performance is not in line with our expectations and uncovering the root driving the performance. This will include addressing increasing areas of exposure on the miscellaneous PI book as a result of the economic downturn and creating a clear strategy for our traditional lines of business.
Using a range of management information and data to identify underwriting rules and process improvements to drive profitable growth.
Creating a robust plan to address the root changes, using all the tools at your disposal including portfolio underwriting and underwriter training.
Managing any changes through the technical change cycle.
Devising and leading on training to our underwriters, insurance experts along with any relevant external facing material.
Working with portfolio underwrite ring managers to ensure as much action can be taken without referral to underwriters.
Being a key member of the PSC Underwriting Management team, spotting opportunities and threats across the business.
Leading underwriting by taking referrals and underwriting of more complex risks.
Ensuring that all aspects of product, pricing and underwriting conform to general compliance, governance and TCF principals
Maintaining policy wordings, underwriting guides and input to all customer facing materials.
Person Specification: Our must haves
This person should customer obsessed, results driven, dynamic, self-starting, quick thinking, resilient, be able to cover a breadth of tasks/ topics, be a fantastic communicator, show drive and demonstrate a desire to continue to improve and develop their skills and abilities.
Experienced PI underwriting manager, with a proven track record of creating and executing change at a strategic level.
Confident in analysing large books of business, being able to distil internal and external factors in to simple and addressable factors.
Deep knowledge of the market and external influences on our portfolio.
Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills.
Ability to distil complex issues into clear, simple strategies and plans.
Ability to think analytically, proactively and creatively; can think on their feet and 'outside the box'.
Strong influencing skills and the ability to play a prominent role in the PSC Underwriting Management team.
The energy to play the long game (persistence/tenacity) and demonstrable drive, self-motivation and determination to achieve results.
Consist demonstration of behaviours in line with the core values of Hiscox.
Ideally ACII qualified or exempt through relevant experience as defined by the FCA
Advantageous but not essential for the right person
Extensive knowledge of underwriting data and historical performance of our underwriting specialities
Previous leadership experience, with the ability to deliver exceptional results through others
