Job Description:
As a Cloud Platform Engineer you will take joint-ownership of our cloud platform and the DevOps tools that are used to support the efficient definition, delivery and operability of Hiscox's cloud infrastructure and applications . Adopting a product mindset, you will actively contribute to the direction and development of the platform, balancing the needs of its consumers with our own initiatives. You are passionate about sharing knowledge and best practice through standards, repeatable solutions and guidelines to improve Hiscox team's adoption of the platform to improve organisation software delivery performance.

As an engineer, you will be a knowledgeable source of expertise on managing and deploying cloud infrastructure and resources based on automation through code. This includes, but is not limited to source code management, CI/CD, configuration management, software package management, monitoring and governance to embed security and compliance. You care about the continual improvement of quality and security of existing and new solutions, which can be easily consumed by our internal customers. You relish being involved in onboarding new technologies and tools and providing ongoing technical ownership of these.

Key Responsibilities
  • Create, deliver, maintain and support the components of the core cloud and DevOps platform, ensuring they remain securely configured, access control models are enforced, appropriate metrics are captured, and technical standards are kept up to date.
  • Work with senior engineers and Cloud Solution Architects to provide direction and oversight of the cloud core platform.
  • Continually question and optimise the governance processes ensuring that deployed services meet quality and security benchmarks.
  • Demonstrate and make significant contributions to the central repository of standards, guidelines and solutions, and the underlying code and automation.
  • Discover and remove technical debt as part of a continuous improvement work ethic.
  • Act as a support escalation point for the 3 rd line cloud infrastructure support provider.
  • Mentor junior members of the platform team.
  • Offer direction and expertise to the DevOps community.
  • Drive decision making across different teams and disciplines, seeking informed decisions that lead to value-add, quality, appropriate outcomes.

Key Skills
  • 2+ years Azure cloud engineering experience, involving infrastructure-as-code for IaaS and PaaS services
  • 2+ years' experience working with DevOps principles, practices and tools.
  • Can demonstrate the application of DevSecOps principles and practises to your work
  • Is a knowledgeable, personable and effective communicator (both verbally and through written form) to the rest of the platform team and to our internal customers, with the ability to deliver information 1-to-1, across the team and across wider lunch-and-learn sessions.
  • Strong interpersonal relationship, team building, collaboration and objective facilitation skills.
  • An understanding of the following tools - Terraform, Azure CLI, PowerShell, ARM, Azure DevOps, Puppet, Docker and Kubernetes. Knowledge of Bamboo and Bitbucket would be a bonus.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities
  • Ability to efficiently manage multiple initiatives simultaneously.
  • Self-motivated and demonstrable ability to stays current with the latest cloud technologies, trends, best-practise and security that can benefit the Cloud and DevOps Platform.
