Client Platform Technologies & Analytics (CPTA) is made up of a cross-functional team of software development specialists, geospatial information specialists and catastrophe / financial model specialists who bring best-in-class analytics, thought leadership and expertise in designing, building and supporting industry standard risk analysis tools. CPTA is also responsible for the delivery of two of Willis Towers Watson's major group-wide strategic change programmes, involving significant data, analytics, and externally facing cloud technology components.
A talented Development Manager is required to join the Client Platform Technology & Analytics (CPTA) function at Willis Towers Watson. Reporting to the Head of Architecture and Development, you'll work in facilitating an innovative cross-functional team responsible for using leading edge technologies to design, build and support web based analytical solutions.
You will oversee a spread of responsibilities relating to ensuring that our global delivery team members are able to stay productive and are following best practice. Some occasional travel may be required as part of the engagement with business and technology stakeholders.
Responsible for the overall health of the development team, as well as the quality of the codebase
Assist leads identify and manage training needs across the team and build plans to close the gaps, including researching technical events, conferences, meet-ups and online self-service development
Work with Architects to ensure shared components are delivered inline to Enterprise Standards and help to resolve technical issues that can hamper team members, ensuring resolutions are well documented and communicated
Work closely with peer functional leads to maximise developer availability to delivery to forecasts
Use insights to provide the product teams direction and leaders visibility of codebase health. Work with Service & Ops to ensure solutions to production insights are engineered into products to increase resilience
Create developer headroom by looking for task automation opportunities (PowerShell, ARM, Chocolatey, etc.)
Maintain a layered resource experience pool through effective hiring, coaching and development
Track our hardware, licences, etc. to minimise delivery interruption
Work with Support and Service & Ops to proactively work forward to protect delivery teams from infra and environmental changes
Line management experience
Ability to self-motivate and manage multiple parallel activities
Ability to prioritise and regularly report on activities
Demonstration of proactive can-do attitude to problem solving
Ability to work to strict timelines and manage expectations
Willingness to develop a support network to aid overcoming obstacles threatening delivery
Foundational understanding of technologies and drive to learn how it is applied to engineer best in class risk analytics.
Experience with modern web application frameworks, such as Angular, TypeScript
Experience of the Power Platform, such as Power Apps and Power BI
BSc degree qualified educated in a quantitative discipline (Mathematics, Science or Computer Science)
Experience of working in a financial services organisation, preferably with exposure to the insurance industry/insurance broking. Where this directly relevant experience is not available, we will be looking for an ability to rapidly become effective in a new, unfamiliar environment
