This new Deputy Director role sits at the heart of making this a reality for our city, working closely with the Director of Public Health to deliver the vision across the complex and diverse landscape of a global city.

Leading a small multi-professional team this role will lead on corporate functions for the Directorate including Governance, Research, Education and Training and play a significant role in the civic leadership of Public Health alongside the Director of Public Health.

Fundamental to this role is leading the public health division's work engaging with partners within the Council and across the local system to deliver sustainable change at scale, working with broad range of partners locally, nationally and internationally to deliver better outcomes for our citizens, turning evidence into practice and embedding health into all policies.

As we have come through the Pandemic we have strengthened partnerships and co-production approaches with citizens and stakeholders and navigated uncertain times against a backdrop of significant inequality. As we work towards levelling up and closing the inequality gaps across our communities there is a momentum to ensure the city is better position for the next global challenge as we grow through a golden decade of growth kicking off with the 2022 Commonwealth Games.

As our Deputy Director of Public Health, you will take your position as part of the Extended Leadership Team, deputising for the Director Public Health when required and building your own strategic relationships and networks at a senior level with our key partners across the city. This role will has a significant part to play in leveraging the intellectual capital of the cities higher education institutions and strengthening our links with the West Midlands Combined Authority.

You will inspire those around you, igniting desire and drive to transform services and empower citizens and communities. The pace of progress must be rapid and sustainable, while the portfolio may change and evolve over time. This means that your constant adaptability and focus on delivery is critical, as well as a compassionate and inspiring leadership approach to line management to lead our wider determinants teams. You will be bold in your ambition for our city, and to deliver real change for citizens lives, and ensure the delivery of a strong pipeline of public health professionals in the City, leading our thinking around public health and key policy areas such as Levelling Up and creating bold partnerships at scale. Crucially, you bring proven experience of strategic leadership and consistent achievement in a broadly comparable environment. And, you're knowledgeable around leading significant programmes of transformational change which have major impact on people and processes and achieve significant savings.

To be successful in your application, you'll be included in either the GMC Specialist Register, the GDC Specialist List or the UK Public Health Specialist Register - 'Public health specialty registrar applicants who are not yet on the GMC Specialist Register, GDC Specialist List in dental public health or UKPHR must provide verifiable signed documentary evidence that they are within 6 months of gaining entry to a register at the date of interview. All other applicants NOT YET granted specialist registration, must provide verifiable signed documentary evidence from the REGISTER concerned that they have submitted satisfactory evidence and therefore registration within six months of date of interview is assured.'

Registration with either UKPHR or GMC/GDC is a requirement for this role and alternative registrations will not be considered. Applicants who do not hold these professional registration cannot be considered for the role and this role is not one where the Council can provide employer sponsor visa application.
