Job description

Colt Data Centre Services (DCS) offers flexible and affordable colocation and IT infrastructure solutions. Our connectivity and colocation solutions allow our customers freedom to plan effectively for the growth of their business, knowing that their data centre strategy is future-proof.

Role Purpose

Assist in providing a 24 x 7 remote hands service to Colt's internal & external customers and to support, develop, and implement new services in-line with customer & business requirements.

Key accountabilities
  • Proactively maintains standards for the data centre in line with DCS best practice.
  • Maintains processes and procedures relating to the data centre: Siebel, Sherpa, Visio floor plans.
  • Manage, monitor tickets queues and resolve Helpdesk calls/tickets as required via Oracle Siebel system
  • Raise all change requests in accordance to colts processes for activities within the technical white space.
  • Manage and/or work closely with third-party suppliers and DCS Infrastructure team
  • Issue permits to work (PTW) for IT cabling & rack based activities within the data centre in accordance to Colt's procedures.
  • Have an awareness of the environmental conditions within the Data halls and other IT technical areas, ensuring the areas constantly fall within customer contracted SLA's, i.e. Temperature, humidity & power commitments, etc.
  • Maintain a duty of care for everyone on site - immediately report any health and safety concerns, or anything unsafe or potentially dangerous to management and stop the work continuing.
  • Ensure that Colt's Datacentre halls, rack builds and storage areas including debox areas are kept clean, safe and secure by following safety and security procedures, reporting any issue to the Site Manager
  • Monitor and check transmission/network equipment where applicable and escalate problems to ensure continued provision of service.
  • Manages and reports on incidents relating to the data centre.
  • Manage and respond to both internal & external customer request in accordance to defined SLA's/OLA's Duties to include:
  • Escort or chaperone customers or third party contractors
  • Accept and store customer or third party deliveries
  • Carry out media/tape change back ups
  • Resetting hardware including reboots (power cycle)
  • Device status observation
  • Audit racks or rack based equipment
  • Help support and/or Manage Installations ( hardware ), PDU's and blanking panels, etc.
  • Support General trouble shooting
  • Supervision of third party contractors
  • Racking and de-racking of equipment
  • Patching: Copper and fibre services
  • Reporting - support site information gathering and/or customer reporting requirements
  • Duty of care for Colt service delivery personnel to ensure they follow the Datacentre site rules
  • Manage material stock levels relating to colo-location delivery & customer support
  • Support the Implementation team ensuring delivery of cross connects, long-lined telco & IT and managed services
  • Ensure that all delegated tasks from the Implementation Managers are completed successfully, in accordance with the agreed timelines and communicated effectively to the IM upon completion, engaging with other business stakeholders if applicable ( Sherpa, ...)
  • General ad-hoc duties


Role specific requirements

Experience

What are welooking for?
  • Proven experience in providing support services within a Datacentre environment
  • Demonstrate previous experience of working in isolation and on 24x7 Shift basis.
  • Experience working in Data Center trouble shooting & installation including (rack positioning, racking and un-racking of hardware equipment, copper & fibre media including testing)

  • Experience in operating systems (Windows,Linux ..) and networking equipment (switches, firewalls..)
  • Monitoring tools experience such Hobbit, Cacti, Sitescope, Nagios, others
  • Any experiences with the typical DC HW and systems as a plus:
  • Hardware : HP, Dell, SUN , Cisco , Juniper, others
  • Networking: switches , load balancers, firewalls, fortigates, junipers,F5 load balancer, bandwith mgt , vpn, mail security, web security , IDS/IPS
  • Wintel: Windows Server, SQL, AD/DNS/DHCP, IIS, MS Terminal Server, Citrix, Exchange, BlackBerry Server, ISA Server, SharePoint Server, WSUS-Server, Antivirus, MAIL security, Windows Scripting, Cluster servers
  • Opensource: SOLARIS, SUN, REDHAT, SuSE, Debian, MySQL, LDAP, Opensource apps, DNS, Shell Scripting, Perl Scripting, Post fix, SUN mail, Apache, Tomcat, Jboss, Red Hat cluster, Veritas cluster, PHP
  • Storage&Backup,: Storage-EMC, Storage-HP, Storage-SUN, Veritas Netbackup ,COMMVault (Presilient) , Networker (EMC)
  • VCloud : VMWare Infrastructure , virtual servers, host ESX's


Skills / Qualifications

  • Having a working knowledge of ITIL Version 3 framework would be beneficial
