Job Introduction Feedback Loop
is a service that will link production, audience and content data across systems, giving content creators a deeper understanding of if we're making the right commissioning decisions for our audiences. It is tied to BBC organisational goals of reaching more younger audiences and improving our internal workflows.Data Solutions
is a small multidisciplinary team that sits in the New Broadcasting House newsroom, in action since mid-2015. We have three priorities for getting BBC content in front of more audiences:
• creating of a data-led newsroom,
• connecting with underserved audiences
• increasing referrals to BBC News from search and social
We employ a mix engineers and data scientists and analysts to work on these priorities, and build everything from elegant journalist-friendly dashboards to complex algorithms that assist journalists in content commissioning, production and distribution.
We are looking for an enthusiastic and a Data Engineer to join a Data Science lead initiative to build the BBC audience through algorithmical understanding of the content production process and how it relates to the needs and interests of our audience.
Are you the right candidate?
The ideal candidate will be familiar with the fundamentals of data modelling and data pipelines, along with more core software engineering principals such as best practice in testing, continuous integration and deployment tools, and git.
Overall we will expect you to bring experience putting data applications and machine learning algorithms into production. You will have some familiarity with modern methods of data storage and pipelining, along with code management and deployment practices such as code quality, deployments, and CI/CD.
Additionally you will have experience in general programming skills (with Java or Python preferred) and have exposure deploying to cloud environments (AWS preferred)
