Data Architect

Would you like to play a key role in defining Data Architectures for a range of projects in one of the UK's leading defence companies? We currently have a vacancy for a Data Architect at our site in Portsmouth - Broad Oak.

As a Data Architect, you will be overseeing the development and maintenance of a Data (Information) Architecture to serve the operation of the Maritime Services Businesses, ensuring that this architecture is realised within the processes and systems operated by Maritime Systems and their partners in support of the fleet.

This role will provide you with the opportunity to work in the growing Digital Services sector of the BAE Systems business and with recent contract wins in the UK and Australia you will be joining and expanding team working on a range of new and exciting data projects. Due to the team expansion this role could also lead to progressing within the team or wider BAE Systems Business.

Your main responsibilities as a Data Architect will involve:

Condense and encapsulate the characteristics of data, making it easier to surface opportunities, identify risks and analyse trends to drive effective decision making.

Present findings and data insights in creative ways to facilitate the understanding of data for both technical and non-technical audiences.

Work with the Data Management discipline lead to define and deliver a foundation for Data Management in Maritime Services.

Review existing high level process and system architectures and propose a data architecture to support them

Review existing data flows: where data is created, read, updated and deleted across all value streams and capture where realised in supporting systems

Create and maintain a top level model of the information scope mapped to the existing process and systems that provide and manipulate the data

Identify 'quick wins' for optimising the processes to reduce duplication, manual rework, known shortfalls or blind spots

Recommend areas of the architecture where efficient optimisation of the business should be achieved

Propose solutions to improve the flow of accurate information around the business

Support the development of the FMSS bid by showing how good data management can contribute to efficiency and identifying specific target areas to deliver benefits.

Your skills and qualifications:

Essential:

Knowledge of the business needs that drive the requirements for Information and Data Architecture.

Breadth of technical knowledge that includes:

  • IT security protocols and accreditation relevant to business operations
  • An advanced knowledge of data access and database management technologies. (e.g. Oracle, SQLServer, PL-SQL)

Desirable:

Experience working within a defence environment

You will also be a proactive and self-driven individual with strong leadership skills. Being customer focused will also be key to success within this role.
