Job description

C&I has worked closely with current service users and Trust staff to create a set of shared values that make sure people who use the Trust's services get the best possible chance of a rapid recovery. These values are embedded in the campaign: Changing Lives - will help drive up the standards of care across the Trust. For people who use the C&I's services, these values meant that they can be assured that through their journey to recovery they will be guaranteed:

• To receive a warm welcome through their journey to recovery
• That their dignity will always be respected
• That their care will be founded on compassion and kindness
• To receive a positive approach to care as they journey towards recovery
• High Quality Care from a highly trained team of professionals
• That each individual will be part of the wider team in the journey to recovery -
i.e. 'no decision about you, without you'.

C&I staff are required to reflect these values throughout their service at the Trust both:
• for people who use the services of the Trust, AND
• within their immediate teams and across the wider business of C&I.

As an applicant for this role, you are urged to demonstrate within your supporting statement a combination of evidence that reflects your competence to meet the job specification and provide examples of how C&I values are an integral part of the way you have and will continue to deliver service.

Camden & Islington Foundation NHS Trust are seeking to appoint a bright and enthusiastic clinician to this 2 month fixed term locum position based in Camden and Islington, North London. The post is available to cover a temporary service maternity vacancy.

This is a 10 session Full-time post and is a "locum approved for service” non-training position. It includes out of hours on-call rota commitments as part of a full-shift rota system.

This post in General Adult Psychiatry (CT1-3) is based at:
  • Sapphire Ward, Highgate Mental Health Centre, Dartmouth Park Hill London N19 5 NX
  • The Assessment and advice team (AAT) based at St Pancras Hospital team, London NW1

The main part of the post will be based on Sapphire Ward. This is a busy acute assessment & Triage ward and offers a great opportunity for gaining experience in acute general adult psychiatry. Clinical duties include undertaking admission/community clerking assessments, risk assessments, physical assessments and investigations as well as initiating treatment plans under supervision of the Consultant psychiatrist. One session will be spent with the AAT team, seeing new referrals and supervised by the AAT consultant.

The Post-holder will usually be expected to take part in the out-of-hours resident full shift first On-call rota at Whittington Hospital/Highgate Mental Health Centre and St Pancras Hospital. They will also take part in a daily unit cover rota at Highgate Mental Health Centre, providing urgent cover for wards when their usual trainees are absent.

The post-holder will have regular weekly clinical supervision with their team Consultant. The Hospital/Ward and AAT services consist of well established, integrated and enthusiastic multidisciplinary teams.

The post is subject to the NHS Locum pay conditions under the 2016 new Junior doctors contract. Inner London weighting supplement applies. The role will be supported by team administration and unit secretarial cover with the usual office/administration facilities. The successful candidate will be supported in pursuing appropriate continuing professional development, including attendance at the weekly unit case conferences at Highgate Mental Health Centre or St Pancras Hospital. However, this is not a formal training post.

The Trust became a Foundation Trust in February 2008 and continues as a mental health/social care organisation. It has well established links with the United Royal Free and University college London medical schools and the North London Junior and higher Psychiatric training schemes. It has recently undertaken a major organisational change in terms of aligning clinical care pathways and operational management to a new Service Line Management model with specialised care pathways.

Camden and Islington are exciting multicultural inner-city boroughs just on the edge of the City of London and West end. There is a contiguous mix of relatively affluent and deprived areas.

Applicants are expected to have completed medical training and Foundation years 1 & 2 training or equivalent. They must have obtained GMC registration. They must be fully eligible to work in the UK at the time of the interview process. Previous training experience in psychiatry is an advantage but is not absolutely essential. Applicants must be available to start the post on 3.6.2019.

Closing date for applications is end Wednesday 27.3.2019

Interviews will hold in early April 2019 at Highgate mental health centre.
