Salary: £52,800 - £79,200 plus car/car allowance and annual incentive

About the Department
Operations are responsible for keeping the lights on; we are at the front line on the Network. If we find a fault, it is our responsibility to respond to the fault, and dispatch our skilled teams to fix it as quickly as possible. We work in all hours, and through all weathers, ensuring our customers are never without power.
What is the Role?
Managing a team of around 30 direct reports and multiple indirect lines of influence, you will be responsible for defining and implementing the commercial and contracting strategy across SEPD, identifying cost savings and maximising value, providing commercial management support to SEPD regions and strategic investment, providing commercial oversight and managing the performance of all contractors across SEPD (circa 120 companies and 4,000 operatives). You will provide leadership and direction to L2/L3 managers in the regions and strategic investment on commercial matters, while building strong relationship with internal and external stakeholders. You will ensure a rigorous control environment is in place to effectively manage risk, compliance and profitability across the portfolio of contracts whilst also leading the implementation of the commercial support service and achieve objectives. You will be reporting to the Head of Operational Support and will share responsibility in defining the strategy and implementing the operational support service.
This is a dynamic, fast paced role and you will drive value through innovation, implementing a continuous improvement philosophy and lead, develop and grow the skills and capability of your team(s) through rigorous implementation of performance management. You will drive success by empowering teams in line with the leadership blueprint.
What do I need?
This is a challenging role and the ideal candidate will be determined, resilient and controlled under pressure with excellent communication skills. You will have high levels of commercial knowledge, demonstrable experience in management of contracts such as NEC and commercial negotiations and will ideally be educated to a minimum HNC/Degree level in Engineering/Quantity Surveying/ Business Administration with industry experience. Experience within a customer driven environment and operations, possession of excellent customer service skills, a disciplined approach to risk management and experience in deriving commercial value are a necessity for this role.
People-management skills combined with previous experience of managing large teams and their performance are a must. Also required are an understanding of the Distribution business and how it is funded, solid experience of leading contract negotiations for small and large projects, knowledge of the procurement regulations, experience of managing annual multi-million-pound budgets and a keen interest in leading business change.
Due to the nature of the role a full UK driving licence is required.
