Job description

Base Location: Reading

Salary: £51,000 - £77,000 depending on skills and experience + car/cash allowance + annual bonus

Working Pattern: Permanent | Flexible working patterns available

About the Department

Operations are responsible for keeping the lights on; we are at the front line on the Network. If we find a fault, it is our responsibility to respond to the fault, and dispatch our skilled teams to fix it as quickly as possible. We work in all hours, and through all weathers, ensuring our customers are never without power.

Were responsible for the delivery of investment for replacement/ refurbished assets, inspection and maintenance of assets. These works range from the installation of a new 132kV Transformer to undergrounding of overhead lines to refurbishing aged plant. To facilitate some of these works, we work closely with a suite of contract partners who complement existing highly skilled resources and teams.

What is the Role?

In an exciting period of change for the sector, we are reshaping our team which is responsible for a significant investment delivery programme. This is a key new role for the company with responsibility for frameworks that drive over £70m of expenditure per annum.

Responsibilities will include:

  • Defining and implementing the commercial and contracts strategy
  • Providing commercial oversight and managing a high performing team that drives performance of all contract partners
  • Providing leadership, direction and mentorship to the delivery units
  • Ensuring a rigorous control environment is in place to effectively manage risk, compliance and profitability across the portfolio of contracts
  • You will be responsible for collating KPIs and proactively managing the performance of all contract partners

What do I need?

You'll have a strong commercial background ideally within the utility sector and experience of JCT and NEC forms of contract. You should have people management experience and be able to provide mentorship and support to the commercial team. You will be responsible for instilling a continuous improvement culture within your team and producing tangible improvements related to commercial and contract management.

A full, current driving licence is required for this role.
