Mental Health Awareness Week

*Trigger warning: mental health, self-harm and addiction*

“Knowing my leader has been trained to support my mental health challenges has been game changing.”

To mark Mental Health Awareness Week last week, Joe Woof, our Customer Conduct Lead, appeared on Jack Parsons' My Duvet Flip.

He shared his experiences with mental health, his recovery journey, and what he thinks is the nearest thing to a cure for addiction.

“You literally just have to tap in the word ‘Lonely’ into a search engine just to see how many hits it generates.’’

This Mental Health Awareness Week listen to Dr. Rob Rosa, Aviva’s Chief Medical Officer, discuss how loneliness is often masked, and how ‘let’s go have a coffee’ is a magical intervention, on our wellbeing podcast.

Aviva research shows that for half of all employees, their financial situation due to the current climate is negatively impacting their mental health.

Dr Doug Wright, Medical Director at Aviva UK Health, comments: “The relationship between debt and mental health is long established, but in these challenging times, employers need to be closely attuned to their employees’ financial wellbeing, signposting help for those who need it but are unsure of where to find it.

Throughout Mental Health Awareness Week, we're highlighting what employers can do to help.

Personal finance education, including credit ratings and budgeting, can be a great way of helping people feel more secure. Aviva’s learning portal provides seminars on a range of financial topics and environments where those in debt know that they can raise their concerns with their line manager, or access services like debt counselling through the business, are equally important.
