Welcome to VERCIDA website.
Skip to main contentVolunteering has many benefits not just for the people you help but also for you. Supporting people in need can be challenging, but invariably turns out to be a fulfilling experience. It is also a way through which personal skills can be developed and the Bank offers many opportunities to become involved.
Community Involvement
The Bank of England aims to be a socially responsible employer and one of the ways we do this is by encouraging our people to get involved in community initiatives.
Contributing to the Bank’s overarching Diversity Strategy, we believe in recognising this involvement as it provides our people with developmental opportunities, builds motivation and morale and helps with recruitment and retention.
Community Outreach Programmes
Within the Bank we offer two community outreach programmes with local schools – see below for further information about them.
Bank staff volunteer and pair with a child attending a local school where once a week they work together on reading skills. This programme meets a particular need in an area where many of the children’s first language at home is not English.
A child suffering from maths-anxiety often only needs encouragement. They intrinsically have the knowledge but are reluctant to apply for fear of getting it wrong. Affecting a large proportion of learners, our volunteers help to facilitate and encourage their learning as usually all the children need is assurance.
