Bloomberg’s products and services provide essential information to the world’s most influential audiences. We are a signatory of the United Nations Principles for Responsible Investment and the UN Global Compact. We strongly believe that sustainability brings more efficiency to the global markets. At Bloomberg, sustainable finance encompasses all forms of investment activity, including analysis of businesses, government and capital markets — integrating environmental and social considerations with financial analysis.
Our primary purpose is to serve our customers’ current and future analytical needs. Increasingly, that requires us to integrate sustainability insights — both risks and opportunities — into our products and services.
The Bloomberg Terminal integrates Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) data into financial analysis, making it relevant and actionable for the financial community. Our uniquely integrated platform — including Bloomberg Intelligence, Bloomberg News & Media, Bloomberg New Energy Finance, Fixed Income and Commodities — gives shape and credibility to the concept of sustainability, which has traditionally been a hard-to-define term.

At Bloomberg, our commitment to sustainability runs through everything we do. The primary objective of our sustainability strategy is to decouple the company’s growth from environmental impact, while proving the business case for sustainable operations.
As of year end 2017, we have improved operating margins, minimized risk and collaborated with our partners to implement more than 120 environmental projects. Our efforts have resulted in 834,209 metric tonnes of avoided CO₂ emissions—the equivalent of more than 4.5 years of Bloomberg’s carbon emissions—and avoided $103 million in operating costs.
We have increased the amount of renewable energy powering our offices (making strides towards our goal of 100% renewable energy by 2025), built our offices to the highest green building standards and improved energy efficiency by more than 44 percent. We are also the only magazine publisher to produce 100% of our magazines from sustainable paper sources.
We are committed to certifying our office spaces to the highest environmental standards. By the end of 2017, we attained LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) Platinum-the highest LEED rating-for 17 projects and LEED Gold for 17 projects. In addition, our new European Headquarters became the first office building in London to receive a BREEAM rating of “Outstanding,” the system’s highest rating. With its BREEAM score of 98.5, the building has the highest design-stage rating of any commercial building in the world.
