Social Mobility at Capgemini

Opportunities for Everyone - Improving Social Mobility at Capgemini and beyond

We believe opportunities should be open to everyone, regardless of background or circumstances. To make this a reality, we’re committed to increasing social mobility within Capgemini and our wider society. Sometimes this requires us to break new ground. Our efforts have been recognised by the Social Mobility Foundation, ranking us 26th in the Social Mobility Index 2018 and 15th in 2019. We are also the number 1 IT and Telecomms organisation.

We were the first company to create Degree Apprenticeships in 2011. This initiative enables young people to attain a degree without the costs of university – a route into industry that was previously only available to graduates. Now, in partnership with Aston University, this opportunity is available to other employers.

We’re dedicated to inspiring, hiring and growing talent from a variety of backgrounds. Here are some examples of this in action:

  • Partnered with Code Your Future aims to support those from disadvantaged backgrounds, including refugees, to develop their digital skills, increase their confidence and provide support through mentors to fast-track their career in tech

  • Capgemini employees voluntarily contribute their time and technology expertise to The Prince’s Trust, including long-term mentoring for young people. Team members take part in fundraising challenges, which includes The Prince’s Trust ‘Palace to Palace’ charity cycle ride from Buckingham Palace to Windsor Castle. This event is the highlight of our annual fundraising calendar and is always well supported by our people
  • We run a work experience programme, open to 15 to 18-year-olds from all backgrounds. To support great inclusivity and help us select the most passionate about technology, we have removed CVs from our process and now use an online application form.  We work really closely with our school partners to encourage young people from more disadvantaged backgrounds apply and thrive during their week
  • Nearly 550 of our UK employees volunteered to support schools/college students in 2019 alone.  They worked on programmes like:

- Apps for Good, a small education charity that empowers young people to solve the problems in their world through technology.  (52% girls & 68% schools in difficult circumstances)

- FIRST Lego League the world’s biggest STEM competition, our people support, mentor and enable primary and secondary students to learn technology and engineering skills

- In Telford we are part of the BITC’s business class programme, leading a cluster of schools and business through our multi year relationship with Haberdasher’s Abraham Darby Academy

  • For the past two years we have worked with Urban Synergy a Lewisham based charity dedicated to giving local young people access to corporate employers.  We have supported them to run programmes dedicated to technology careers.  Our SAP team have worked hard to create a programme running across three local schools that gives the young people dedicated time in our office with access to our team of professionals.
