Our University's LGBT group is a network for matters relating to sexual orientation equality and is open to all colleagues and students.
Leeds Beckett University is a strong supporter of lesbian, gay and bisexual equality. We are a Stonewall 'Diversity Champion', demonstrating our dedication to equality for LGBT colleagues and students. In 2015 our LGBT forum, Rainbow Rose also received the Highly Commended Network Group Award.
This reflects the range of activities, networks and committed individuals who make Leeds Beckett an inclusive place to work and study.
Dr Ian R Lamond - Senior Lecturer and Chair of LGBT+ Staff/Student Forum
‘I have been part of the staff/student LGBT+ forum since 2013 and chair since 2017. Being part of the LGBT+ community at Leeds Beckett, and working as a voice for other members of that community within the University, is a great honour. The forum has been a great support to me, helping me feel much more settled here than I have in any of my previous positions.
The forum is a great opportunity for members of the community, and community allies, to discuss issues that affect them as they work and/or learn within Leeds Beckett. We are an LGBT+ advocacy group working within the University, and the forum enables us to contribute to policies that concern us as LGBT+ staff and students. We also collaborate with other LGBT+ groups around Leeds and actively campaign around greater LGBT+ inclusion and LGBT+ rights.’
