London is one of the most culturally diverse cities in the world and this is reflected by the people who work here. We value what this diversity brings to our culture and the opportunities it provides to widen our horizons and understand our clients, and each other.
Origins
Origins is our BAME (Black Asian Minority Ethnic) employee resource group in London. Origins is open to everyone and provides a diverse, accessible and proactive forum that supports our BAME colleagues and promotes greater inclusion of people from all backgrounds. Origins hosts formal and informal opportunities for business development and networking, both within the firm and through our clients’ BAME networks, creating opportunities to learn about culture and business.
Top 10
We were ranked first for our demographic score and our policies and practices in a top ten ranking of legal practices by the UK Black Solicitors’ Network’s diversity league table.
Attracting BAME talent
In London, we set a target for each trainee cohort to include 25 per cent BAME people. In 2017, 36 per cent of the offers we made for our 2017 are BAME.
Black History Month
In the UK, Black History Month is typically a period of remembrance, honouring those who sacrificed and suffered for the sake of racial equality, celebrating those who have succeeded, and acknowledging the challenges still experienced by individuals. In 2016, Origins hosted an exclusive, pre-launch screening of the much-anticipated ‘Moonlight’, winner of the Oscar for best film.
Diwali
Each year, millions of Hindus, Sikhs, Jains and others world over celebrate Diwali, the festival of lights. It is one of the major festivals of these religions' calendars and coincides with the Hindu new year. Origins celebrated Diwali 2016 by hosting a colourful and interactive evening of entertainment, dance and theatre in the London office.
