Parents and Carers Together at Cambridge Assessment

There are many colleagues who have parenting and caring responsibilities outside of work. Carers include those looking after someone who is unable to care for themselves due to old age or a disability.

We are a small group with shared interests and responsibilities, who offer each other informal peer support. The network is a support system that goes beyond a monthly meeting, with new links and friendships always forming. The network aims to:

  • create a safe space where members can have open discussions about parental and caring issues with the aim to support each other;
  • actively influence Cambridge Assessment policies to support a positive work-life balance;
  • organise support activities and events for staff with parental and caring responsibilities;
  • find ways to attract, recruit and retain a more diverse workforce; and,
  • feed into wider diversity and inclusion initiatives.

Members meet for an hour once a month at lunchtime. Sometimes we have an informal networking meeting to meet other parents and carers within the University.

On other occasions we hold an organised skills or information workshop, often following members' own suggestions. Speakers and facilitators may be Cambridge Assessment staff, or invited guests. Many topics will be relevant to everyone. Others are more specialised.
