Network Groups at Leeds Beckett University

Dignity and Respect Network

Leeds Beckett University is committed to providing an inclusive and supportive environment in which a diverse population of students and colleagues can learn and thrive, free from discrimination and harassment.

Our colleagues and students expect to be treated with dignity and respect and the University is a place where people are protected from treatment which demeans them, or is unfair or intimidating.

If colleagues feel that they are not being treated fairly then the Dignity & Respect Network is a first line of support. Colleagues can discuss their issue discreetly with one of our independent, trained volunteers who can talk through the options and help identify your next course of action.

Colleague Networks

We see communication as a key aspect of an inclusive culture. We have four different colleague and student networks which are a great way of sharing information, raising issues, generating ideas and influencing change.  Meeting about four times a year, all of our equality groups serve to provide a safe and supportive environment for our colleague and students.  We currently operate the following Equality groups:

Disability Action Group

As well as networking, The Disability Action Group provides an opportunity for colleagues and students to meet to address any concerns or issues that they, or fellow students, colleagues and visitors may be facing.

Faith & Belief Forum

Our Faith and Belief forum is open to colleagues and students of faith and no faith.  The group meets to support improvements to university facilities, arrange events, seminars, discusses different faiths and considers how to mark significant dates in the faith calendar.

Race Equality and Diversity Forum

Under the Equality Act 2010, ‘Race’ refers to a group of people defined by their race, colour, and nationality (including citizenship) ethnic or national origins.   We aim to promote and raise awareness of issues affecting all colleague and provide mechanisms and guidance for enhancing their contribution to Leeds Beckett. BME colleagues and students are under-represented in our University and a significant focus for the Group.

Rainbow Rose Forum

Our University’s LGBT group is a network for matters related to sexual orientation and is open to all colleagues and students.

Leeds Beckett University is a strong supporter of lesbian, gay and bisexual equality. We are a Stonewall 'Diversity Champion', demonstrating our dedication to equality for LGBT colleague and students. We are proud to have been named in the top 10 of the UK’s most LGBT inclusive employers as part of the annual VERCIDA Awards this year. Our LGBT forum, Rainbow Rose also received the Highly Commended Network Group Award in 2015
