Mental Health Support at SSE

We're working to create a culture where mental health can be championed and talked about openly.

Mental Health FIrst Aiders:

We have trained over 320 employees to be Mental Health First Aiders, with more training courses scheduled to help achieve our goal of one MHFA to every 50 colleagues. 

Our Mental Health First Aiders offer the following support:

• Understand the important factors affecting mental wellbeing
• Identify the signs and symptoms for a range of mental health conditions
• Listen non-judgementally and hold supportive conversations using the Mental Health First Aid action plan
• Signpost people to professional help, support and resources 

We also have weekly wellbeing cafes, covering topics such as stress, money worries, motivation and health and nutrition which can all be discussed openly and honestly, with guest speakers invited to help contribute to the conversation twice a month.

We have our very own, NHS-approved, app designed to help prevent and manage stress, anxiety and related conditions.

All employees also have access to our Employee Assistance Programme, which is available to anyone who needs a little bit of extra support, which can be called upon 24 hours day in total confidence.
