Mental Health & Disability at Association of British Insurers

The ABI took part in a week-long activity to mark Mental Health Awareness Week and also joined Britain’s Healthiest Workplace, to deepen our understanding of the health risks affecting ABI employees and to better understand how these could be mitigated.

The ABI committed to offering mental health training to all our line managers by the end of 2017.

In 2017, the ABI supported Mental Health Awareness Week by hosting a number of internal workshops and activities, teaching the team how to manage stress, promote workplace wellbeing and relaxation (thank you work-day shoulder massages!), and how to best support in the workplace those experiencing mental ill health.

We partnered with the mental health charity Mind who came in and spoke to the ABI team on how to use mindfulness to relieve anxiety and stress, and gave us the framework to improve employee wellbeing and mental health in the workplace. We also hosted a lunchtime Yoga workshop, put together wellness packs, arranged for neck and shoulder massages for employees and rounded off the week with a charity cycle-a-thon, with all proceeds from the weeks activity going to Mind.

The ABI is also lobbying to encourage more employers to offer valuable support to those experiencing mental ill health.
