It is estimated that 1 in 6 people in a week experience a common mental health problem. As such we recognised the need to equip our employees with the tools and techniques to feel confident in dealing with these difficult situations as well as identifying the warning signs.
Therefore, we have implemented a workplace initiative to train a number of employees and managers to be Mental Health First Aiders (MHFA). They are trained to spot the warning signs which can help aid a quicker recovery, reduce stigma and prevent someone from hurting themselves or others. We currently have 14 MHFA’s and look to increase this number in 2018.
It helps to facilitate open and honest discussions with an employee who may have been suffering in silence and gives the employee practical guidance and support for overcoming their difficulties and maintaining good mental health.
As well as this we have an Employee Assistance Programme which offers counselling, financial and legal advice to staff.
