Menopause Support at TUI

Every woman between the ages of 45 to 55 - although this age range may vary - will go through the menopause.  This is not just an issue for women, it will affect trans men and some non-binary colleagues.  80% of women will experience symptoms and 25% of those women will be affected by severe symptoms.

At TUI, they believe it’s therefore essential to talk openly and honestly about the menopause and perimenopause.

TUI have signed up to the Wellbeing of Women Menopause pledge to demonstrate their commitment to:

  • Recognising that the menopause can be an issue in the workplace and colleagues need support
  • Talking openly, positively and respectfully about the menopause
  • Actively supporting and informing colleagues affected by the menopause

TUI work closely with Davina McCall, a huge advocate for menopause support, who recently visited the TUI Head Office to talk about her trip to a TUI BLUE Hotel. During the live Q&A with Davina and TUI colleagues, it was revealed that TUI were starting a new menopause network group.

The menopause network group at TUI is supported by their Director of Cabin Crew and In-flight Services, Jill Nye. Through the network, they want to:

Start the conversation
raise general awareness through organised events to help break the stigma

Support
help all people affected by menopause by providing a safe, reassuring and confidential environment
for peer connections

Signpost
promote awareness of reliable, practical information and resources available internally and externally and educate and inform colleagues to tackle any menopause bias – conscious or unconscious

As well as this group, TUI also have bespoke menopause pages on their colleague intranet providing advice and information, and a manager guide for supporting colleagues who are experiencing adverse symptoms linked to menopause.  They want to help to educate colleagues and create an open culture of caring.

TUI are also working towards The Menopause Charity Workplace Kitemark once it’s launched.  They believe The Menopause Charity aligns with the TUI values, and their kitemark demonstrates TUI’s commitment to supporting people experiencing the menopause firsthand, or secondhand as a friend, partner, colleague or manager.

To launch the network and menopause focus, TUI hosted two events. One was an in-person event at their Head Office of yoga and guided meditation as well as an opportunity for colleagues to have some refreshments and chat all things menopause. The second event was held virtually with a guest speaker from My Menopause Centre. They signposted support, facts and covered how to approach your GP.

We’re excited to see what’s next on TUI’s menopause journey…
