LGBT+ network at West Midlands Police

We aim:

  • To work towards equal opportunities in terms of improving the policies, procedures, practices, recruitment, retention and career development of West Midlands Police (WMP) to ensure that all employees are treated fairly, and ensure that lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgendered (LGBT+) employees of the organisation are treated equally
  • To offer support to LGBT+ and non-LGBT employees of WMP in a totally confidential manner
  • To work towards improving relations between WMP and the LGBT+ communities of the West Midlands
  • To work towards creating an improved working environment to enable LGBT+ employees to bring their whole selves to work and not have to hide a large part of their private lives

It is not the policy of The Network that any member should be open about their sexuality or gender identity. This will always remain a personal decision.

That said however, we do advocate being open and out at work.  Nobody should have to hide aspects of their identity for fear of less equal treatment.  Those who do expend vast amounts of energy keeping a large part of their lives a secret. 

Studies show that people who are 'out' are happier, more productive and feel more included in the workplace.
