Skip to main contentThe aim of our LGBT+ network is to continue to raise the profile of diversity and inclusion. Our goals are to promote the acceptance and wellbeing of LGBT+ employees and assist in framing company policy. We intend to provide a support and social network by hosting events across the country and in conjunction with other networks. We want to help people to be themselves at work.
Whether you’re part of the LGBT+ network, a supporter of the LGBT community, or simply would like to know more, this community is open to all in Atkins to come onboard.
Our Partnership with Stonewall
In conjunction with the formation of the LGBT+ network last year, Atkins joined Stonewall's Diversity Champions Programme. Stonewall is an organisation which campaigns for the equality of LGBT people across Britain. Through our partnership, we get access to a wide range of employer resources and support as well as the opportunity to participate in the Workplace Equality Index, a programme designed to help companies to identify the strenghts and weaknesses of their diversity and inclusion programmes.
We've made some great strides in improving gender diversity over the last five years but we're still on a journey when it comes to making Atkins a truly inclusive employer for all. Participating in the Workplace Equality Index has been invaluable for the insight it has given us into how we can improve the way we support our current LGBT community and attract others to join our business.
Marching for equality
We had lots of fun marching at London Pride in early July! Atkins staff joined 300 other from the construction industry to march under the banner of ‘Building Equality’. We then hosted an after party at the London Piccadilly Institute where we were joined by another 100 engineers marching with InterEngineering. It was a great opportunity to meet hundreds of other LGBT people and supporters from the construction and engineering profession.
“Inclusion, support and encouragement are the core of the LGBT+ Group. Whether it’s planning for Pride or pushing for change, everyone is welcome.”
