The group meets regularly, usually at County Hall, and membership of the network is tiered to ensure that the confidentiality of individual members is respected.
The Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender (LGBT) Employee Network aims to support colleagues with LGBT-related matters and to help the Council ensure that all services are LGBT friendly and do not discriminate on the grounds of sexual orientation or gender identity.
The network terms of reference include the following:
- supporting LGBT people and communities within Essex, in particular through the services we provide to them
- being a voice for LGBT employees and providing a confidential support network for welfare
- raising awareness of LGBT issues throughout the Council
- working to inform the wider transformation strategy (including developing our staff to help us to achieve our vision)
Membership of the network is open to all irrespective of sexual orientation and gender identity, as long as individuals are respectful of the need to maintain confidentiality. Participation can include attending meetings with other members and invited guests, helping out at events, or just receiving updates as part of a confidential emailing list. Individual membership is not disclosed outside of the Leadership Team.
The network welcomes consultation from employees and service areas across the organisation.
