Inclusive Culture at Siemens

At Siemens, we want to foster a culture of inclusion, where every individual or group can be and feel welcomed, respected, supported, valued and empowered to participate and contribute fully.

We want all of our people to feel a strong sense of belonging, regardless of what group they identify with. When we belong, we bring our true and best selves to work.

Employee Networks and Equality Diversity & Inclusion Champions

Many of our colleagues find a sense of belonging when they find a common purpose.  Whether they are focussed on increasing equality for a certain minority group or whether their purpose is to create a supportive culture for members, our Employee Networks and ED&I champions create impact in our business and allow diverse voices and life experiences to be heard.

Watch our video from some of our employee networks to hear about what they do.

The employee networks foster a culture of allyship by organising inclusive events throughout the year which draw in colleagues.  Events and activities take a variety of forms; from small group listening circles, pre-recorded videos, blogs, inviting external speakers, hosting panel discussions to fun events around food, music or quizzes, there is always an opportunity to learn, share and be inspired.

Topics have ranged from Veganuary and Movember, Black Lives Matter, transgender Ask Me Anything, autism awareness, being a single working parent, hidden disabilities, PRIDE marches and many more.

Inclusive Culture

We know that we need to listen to our people to understand their experiences of working at Siemens and we use a variety of ways to develop a culture of inclusion.

Our regular Global people engagement surveys, supplemented with local people surveys and ED&I surveys, help us to understand the experiences.  We use Cultural Inquiry techniques to delve deeper into focus topics.  Through these individual or group inquiries we have been able to develop a much better working environment for older workers, around flexible working and to develop a sense of belonging.

In response, our Conscious Inclusion programme, developed for one Siemens business, moves beyond understanding Unconscious Bias towards action and allyship, helping our colleagues to stand up if they witness exclusion.

Privilege and allyship workshops, in small groups, have helped many colleagues from majority groups understand their own hidden privilege and to understand another’s perspective.

At any time, our people have access to our Learning World platform which hosts carefully curated collections of resources which help them continue their learning.
