Wellbeing is everything
Your wellbeing couldn’t be more important. We treat this as a moral obligation, but it’s so much more than that. A healthy, content, and resilient workforce is a productive one – and when you serve the people of Essex in the wide variety of life-enhancing ways that we do, this is essential.
“Our definition of wellbeing is a sense of organisation, team and individual health, contentment and resilience, in which each individual employee is supported to make informed choices and engage in positive wellbeing behaviours in order to thrive at Essex County Council and beyond.” – Dr Sabrina Robinson, Wellbeing Lead
Our approach to wellbeing
We work closely with all of our colleagues to provide strong and sophisticated wellbeing support based on their needs. We’re proud of what we’ve achieved so far, but our new strategy will take us to a whole new place for mental, physical, social, and financial wellbeing.
Join us and you’ll find these are just some of the ways we’ll support your wellbeing:

Work Life Balance
The Council is committed to creating a working environment where you can successfully balance your working and home lives.
We understand that traditional work patterns don’t suit everyone, and that an individual’s needs often vary greatly over the course of a career. Finding the right role isn’t always easy especially if you need more flexibility for your ‘work/life balance’.
We therefore aim to be as flexible as possible, offering options that include variable hours, part-time working and home-working.
There are many people across the Council who make the most of this flexibility, including some of our most senior employees.
Share your experience, tips and advice with other job seekers on how they can land their dream job. The best contributions will get published!
