We’re working hard to increase the number of women in the rail industry and we’ve had some great success but there is still a long way to go. In 2018 30% of Sothern’s trainee train driver roles were taken up by women, up from 6% in 2015. In addition, a class of new trainee drivers on both Great Northern and Southern had a 50:50 gender split in.
This year two of our women were recognised for their contributions to Diversity in the Rail Industry. Angie Doll – Managing Director of Southern and Gatwick Express won the Everywoman Transport and Logistics Industry Champion Award and Katrina Rose Allen – Engineering Apprentice, was listed as one of the Women in Engineering Society’s top 50 Women in Engineering list.
